"I am continually struck by the professionalism, high level of caring and exemplary caregivers that I have met from Home Instead. My mom couldn't live without them, and neither could I.
Years before Bryson McQuiston became the franchise owner of Home Instead Senior Care® of Jackson, Tennessee, he was unknowingly preparing to embrace the challenge of helping seniors remain safely in their homes.
"I can see now that all of my previous experiences blended together for my calling as a Home Instead Senior franchise owner," said Bryson, who was born and raised in Brighton, 12 miles east of the Mississippi River and 60 miles west of Jackson.
"Everything I did before Home Instead Senior Care served as diverse areas of preparation for what I do now: banking and finance, nursing home administration and senior adult ministry," Bryson noted. "Ministry is at the heart because I have the desire to keep people in their homes. We aim to meet physical and spiritual needs. The companionship aspect of care helps meet those spiritual needs. We can minister for the whole setting, the whole spectrum of needs."
Among the threads in a tapestry of service is Bryson's Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Christian Brothers University in Memphis in 1984 followed by positions in banking and nursing home administration. Later, the graduate of Mid-America Seminary served for 10 years at Bellevue Baptist Church in the Cordova area of Memphis, where he guided a successful senior adult ministry.
"It was at the church where I became familiar with Home Instead Senior Care because we tried to help people with resources and worked with the franchise sometimes to do that," he recalled, "so Home Instead Senior Care has become the final common thread for me.
"I have the love and passion for seniors, and they deserve the very best of care. I understand them. It is a comfortable situation for me because I have had a heart for seniors from an early age. I want to see them taken care of and help them through the ups and downs of life."
Bryson strives to assist seniors and their families in any way he can, regardless of whether they become clients. "We want to be a resource that people in our area can access, a source for all things aging. Our business name – Senior Resource Center, LLC – says it all. We hope families will come to us so we can point them in the right direction. We want to be a conduit of information. People are trying to navigate through a maze, and life can take some mighty confusing twists and turns. We try to help."
Bryson is a member of several organizations, including the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, the Tennessee Association of Home Care and the National Association of Home Care and Hospice. He serves as the chairman for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's in Jackson and serves on the local Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council. Bryson also is a member of Englewood Baptist Church and has served in various volunteer ministries.
He and wife Linda have been married 26 years. Daughter Kenley is a registered nurse at a local hospital and son Charlie attends Union University. "Our dog is Snickers, a Shih Tzu who thinks he is the head of the household," Bryson said.
Bryson's credo comes from the first line of the Home Instead Senior Care franchise network's Guiding Principles: "To honor God in all we do." Bryson noted: "I don't know how I could improve on those words."
Linda's most prevalent role at Home Instead Senior Care is seen in her leadership with Home Instead sponsored community activities.
Prior to Home Instead, Linda was blessed to have been a stay at home mom for 16 years to Kenley and Charlie. She was also involved in church ministry as a pastor's wife. Prior to that, Linda's work experience was in outside and inside sales.
Linda enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, being outdoors and ministry opportunities with teenagers.
