Have you ever been going about your day and catch a whiff of a distinctive smell that makes you stop and remember the past?
Every once in a while this happens to me with my grandmother's perfume. I have no idea what scent it was that she wore. However when I catch a whiff, it instantly brings me back to the times I spent with her. She died in 1989, so I am pretty impressed that my smell and memory is still good enough to remember her.
I loved my grandmother! She was artsy, fun and full of life. My memories are short because she died right before my 10th birthday. However the things I do remember are fun and loving memories. She was always willing to play whatever game I dreamed up. There is a picture of us in my parents living room where I had set up a "classroom" so I could teach her and my aunt because at the time I thought I wanted to be a teacher.
I wish I had been able to spend more time with her, but unfortunately she died pretty quickly from a diagnosis of Alzheimer's. You'll hear more about that later on in this blog. Even though she is no longer with me, I am still near her because I am currently living in her old house. And at times in her house, I can smell that perfume and it brings back those happy memories.
What scents remind you of the past and the good ol days???
