To Us, It's Personal

Why Is It Personal to Frank Byrne?

Early in life, Frank witnessed the tremendous benefit a caregiver can bring to the life of a senior when his mother, Carolyn, hired a retired friend, Pat, to provide companionship to Frank’s grandfather, George (who lived with the family but spent his days alone). Frank never forgot the “life coming back” into his grandfather’s eyes after Pat was hired – something that still sticks with him. Years later, while in college, Frank got his first taste of caregiving after volunteering in a “friendly-visitor” program offered at his school. The experience was so positive, Frank moved in with his elderly client for a month as a live-in Caregiver while his client’s family traveled. These experiences helped launch Frank on his career path in social services.

Many years later, Frank and his family witnessed the devastating impact caregiver stress can have on a family when his mother died unexpectedly of a heart attack while caring for his disabled father. Eventually, Frank’s father moved in with him and his family. Lisa and Frank experienced the consumer side of homecare – something that serves them well now as providers.
