Local Business Leaders Take a Stand for Texas Seniors
Montgomery County business owners elected to state senior advocacy organization

CONROE, Texas – March 15, 2016 – Two local business leaders’ passion for serving others has earned them statewide recognition. Polo and Sharon LaCoste have been elected to the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature (TSHL), a bipartisan organization that strives to promote good government for all Texans by directly involving senior citizens in the legislative process.

The LaCostes have owned the Home Instead Senior Care serving Montgomery County for more than ten years, where they have focused on helping area seniors stay independent in the comfort of their own homes as they age. They know that experience will be extremely valuable in their new role advancing the goals of the TSHL focused on senior welfare.

“Being active in our community has always been a priority for us,” Sharon says. “Just as we have sought to advance aging-related issues in Montgomery County for the past decade, we are eager for the opportunity with TSHL to advance the conversation around those topics and more in the Texas legislature.”

The TSHL was formed in 1985 by the 69th Texas Legislature. The organization’s main goal is to serve as a resource to the Texas Legislature, the public and private sectors, boards and commissions, and provide services that will complement other senior groups and organizations.

The LaCostes bring to the TSHL a mix of both healthcare and business acumen that provides the organization a unique perspective and expertise on aging issues. Prior to their time with Home Instead Senior Care, Polo spent more than 28 years in freight transportation, where he eventually served as president and part owner. He also worked in insurance for more than 10 years, earning his certification as a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA).

As a registered nurse (RN), Sharon served as a director of nursing for surgical centers in both Louisiana and Austin, Texas. And since moving to Texas, Sharon has been an active member with the Conroe Chamber, the South County Woodlands Chamber and the Montgomery County Association of Business Women. Currently, Sharon serves as a board member of the Home Care Association of America Texas Chapter, where she has served as past president and Polo is also an active member.

“We’re honored that we’ve been entrusted with the responsibility of advocating for seniors throughout the state of Texas,” explains Polo. “Our goal is to provide value from not just our past experiences and expertise, but also our passion for serving seniors and others everywhere.”

Polo and Sharon have been elected by their peers to serve a two-year term, and will represent their constituents by considering issues and passing resolutions addressing the needs of all Texans.
