In the Pine Belt Area, members of the community generously donated approximately 2,840 gifts for nearly 710 area seniors through this year's program – all of which were wrapped and delivered by volunteers, in time for holidays. Many of the gifts were for everyday needs such as socks, pajamas, blankets and toiletries.

We would like to especially thank the following community partners who hosted trees with Be a Santa to a Senior ornaments: Turtle Creek Mall, Southern Mississippi Federal Credit Union, Priority One Bank, Parris Jewelers, Bancorp South (Laurel), Zellco Credit Union (Columbia), Edward Jones, and Shirley's of Ellisville.

We would also like to thank Amedysis Home Health of Collins, Forrest General Home Care and Hospice, Lamar Meadows Senior Center, Parkway Heights United Methodist Church, Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living, Magnolia Place for Seniors, Marion Park for Seniors, Home Care Hospice, St. Joseph's Hospice, Southern Care Hospice, Hattiesburg and Picayune Twin Oaks Senior Center, Wesley Home Care, local Medicaid Waiver Case Managers (SMPDD), Laurelwood Health and Rehab and Wayne County Turning Point for Seniors. Over the past several weeks, these organizations have brightened the holidays by wrapping and bringing both gifts and companionship to seniors in need across the area.

Another special thank you to Southeast MS Rural Health Initiative for their kindness with all of their very generous donations to the Be a Santa to a Senior Program.

For those of you who haven't participated in the past, Home Instead Senior Care's Be a Santa to a Senior program is an annual program in which we ask that community groups and organizations provide names of indigent seniors in our area who may not receive a gift or who have very little to no family contact for the holidays. We gather a list of these names and gift ideas that we then place on ornaments on a tree and people within the community will "adopt" those seniors and purchase gifts for them. We all get together early in December for a wrapping party and then each community group is responsible for delivering the wrapped gifts to the appropriate senior.
