Mary and David Dean, Owners

Mary and David Dean are the owners of the Spirit Lake, IA office of Home Instead Senior Care. This husband and wife team enjoys working with others and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of seniors and their caregivers. Mary is a registered nurse and worked as a case manager and then as caregiver advocacy director at the Northwest Aging Association in Spencer, IA. After exploring the idea of owning a Home Instead Senior Care franchise, the Deans realized this was an ideal way to make a relevant difference in the lives of seniors in their community. "I enjoy working with seniors and making a difference in their lives," says Mary. Our goal is to help seniors age in place in their own homes, whether that be in a house, apartment, assisted living or nursing home, by providing non-medical in home care that focuses on helping seniors with their daily activities to remain safe and healthy.​​

Jennifer McCartan, Office Coordinator/CAREGiver Recruitment and Retention

Jennifer McCartan, Office Coordinator/CAREGiver Recruitment and Retention

Jennifer joined our Home Instead Senior Care team in May of 2013 as our Office Coordinator. Her job includes CAREGiver retention, recruitment and training, along with supporting Mary.   Jennifer understands that it can sometimes be unsettling for the client when a CAREGiver first goes into a client's home, so she looks for qualities such as patience, understanding, dependability and experience when hiring new CAREGivers.  

Jennifer's education includes a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University. Prior to joining our team Jennifer worked in the insurance industry for 8 years. She keeps busy with her husband, Travis, and two young children, Logan  and Avery.​​

Ashley Hodgell, Client Care Coordinator

Ashley Hodgell, Client Care Coordinator

​Ashley joined our Home Instead Senior Care Team as a CAREGiver in October of 2015 and transitioned to Client Care Coordinator in June of 2016.  Her job includes service inquiries and care consultations for new clients and their families, along with Quality Assurance visits and community networking.  Prior to joining our team, Ashley worked in a care center for 7 years.​
