Sharon Sees Her Clients as Family

“To us, it’s personal.”

It’s the motto for both Home Instead Senior Care® and Sharon McDonald, CAREGiver of the Month for the owner Gregory Gomez-Mira’s award-winning franchise that serves Houston, Bellaire, Missouri City and Sugar Land.

“Sharon truly cares for her clients as if they were family. She is genuinely concerned about her clients and will even call the office and check on them when she is out of town,” Staff Coordinator Destiny Wesley pointed out when announcing Sharon’s honor.

At Home Instead Senior Care, Sharon’s responsibilities include meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, companionship, and transportation and errands. In addition to those services, Sharon and other CAREGivers offer personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence, cognitive impairment and mobility. By expertly doing so, Sharon not only assists her clients, but helps their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

Home Instead Senior Care’s guiding principles are also emblazoned its employees’ hearts: “CAREGivers demonstrate their commitment to their clients by honoring God in all they do; treating their clients and their families with dignity and respect; embracing personal growth in an attempt to continually improve the quality of their care through franchise training; and building value in their service to others.”

“Sharon is a sweetheart,” Destiny said. “She is so loving, kind, compassionate and patient. Sharon is awesome. She is an extremely timely person, and she is always willing to help her fellow CAREGivers and office staff as well.”

To build on their knowledge and experience, Sharon and other CAREGivers are offered the opportunity to complete the Home Instead Senior Care network’s Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Dementias CARE: Changing Aging Through Research and Education® Training Program.

CAREGivers who are trained in the CARE program have a passion to work with Alzheimer’s disease clients and receive ongoing classroom training and testing. The Home Instead Senior Care program offers a personal approach to taking care of seniors with Alzheimer’s disease at home – where 60 to 70 percent live, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. It is a unique program that has received acclaim and endorsements from experts.

The Home Instead Senior Care approach of encouragement and assistance helps those with dementia and their family members cope with the challenges of memory loss. CAREGivers such as Sharon also can provide assistance with establishing a regular routine and restoring the simple pleasures of life, among the best non-medical treatments for the disease. Clients’ families truly recognize how much assistance Sharon provides, and she is in demand.

“Sharon truly represents our office and Home Instead Senior Care very well,” Destiny added.

Home Instead CAREGivers, who are screened, trained, bonded and insured, provide a variety of companionship services to help keep seniors independent.
