PORTSMOUTH — Seniors living in the Greater Seacoast area who may be financially challenged and/or not have family or loved ones to celebrate with will receive holiday gifts as a result of the efforts of two area organizations.

Home Instead Senior Care of Seacoast New Hampshire is partnering with Rockingham Community Action to promote Home Instead’s "Be a Santa to a Senior" program. The program’s mission is to provide gifts and companionship to lonely and often isolated seniors. The program is made possible by the generous support of area nonprofit organizations, retailers, volunteers and members of the community who make financial contributions and donate their time and talents each year to brightening the lives of area seniors.

“There are so many needy seniors, right here in the Seacoast area who don’t have family or friends to celebrate with this year,” said Lisa Ganem, owner of the local Home Instead Senior Care office. “Through this program, we are able to show them that they are valuable members of our community and that people in Seacoast still care about their well-being and happiness. We are greatful for the community support we have received as each gift is estimated between $40 - $75. Each gift will make a valuable impact to each senior as we are providing community members with such items as grocery gift cards, winter boots, coats and new bed linens. This program will enrich of the life of each senior and make a yearlong impact.”

This year, Home Instead has partnered with local area nonprofit Rockingham Community Action to collect the donations and gifts and distribute them to area seniors.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Home Instead to bring holiday cheer and comfort to local seniors who may not have anyone to share in the season of giving,” said Patte Ardizzoni, administrator, Rockingham Community Action. “Our agency works diligently every year to make holiday wishes of needy children and seniors come true. We have been committed to helping seniors in our community for the last 6 years but we are so grateful for the collaboration with Home Instead Senior Care. This year, with their support we are able to support more seniors this holiday season. We encourage everyone in the greater Seacoast area to add one more gift to their shopping list for a senior who would really appreciate it.”

Community members who are interested in participating in this program can donate to the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation. The funds will be used to purchase holiday gifts for seniors such as warm slippers, a new robe, grocery gift card or requested product to brighten the season.

“We have seen, firsthand, how much this program means to the community,” said Ganem. “Without it, there would be seniors for whom the holidays would pass without even a visit. It’s important that we take the time to bring the isolated and financially challenged seniors in our community a little more joy during this time of year.”

You can drop off your donation at the local Home Instead Senior Care office, located at 10 Vaughan Mall, Suite 209, Portsmouth, NH USA 03801. Or, you can make your check payable to Home Instead Senior Care Foundation.
