When Chris and Betsy Head opened their second franchised office of Home Instead Senior Care in Lynchburg, VA in 2003, it was after Betsy had a battle with breast cancer in late 2002. From the beginning, Betsy saw Home Instead as a ministry opportunity to the seniors and their families throughout the franchise territory. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy from the University of Georgia and a Master of Divinity Degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Her first career position was as the Baptist Campus Minister at Longwood College and Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, VA. When the couple moved to Roanoke in 1996 to follow Chris's job with Xerox Corporation, Betsy returned to campus ministry at Roanoke College. In 2000 Chris and Betsy began to look for a new career direction that would allow Chris to be at home more, and not be gone so much on business. The couple had 3 children by now, and wanted to spend more time together as a family. When they found Home Instead Senior Care, they knew they had found what they both were looking for. It took 2 years for the Heads to expand their business into Lynchburg, and when they did, it was because they were receiving so many requests from seniors and their families who needed the type of reliable services that Home Instead offers.
Betsy knows what it means to worry about aging parents. Her own mother, now in her 90's, has been a real inspiration for Betsy, but also a challenge, as they have grappled with knowing when to lay down the car keys, what to do about incontinence management, how to negotiate doctor's visits from far away, and concerns about safety, falls, and nutritional support. Betsy says, "My passion is to make sure our Home Instead staff and CAREGivers care for every client we serve as if he or she were my own parent. I'm so glad that my mom has a Home Instead CAREGiver with her several days a week, because it gives me peace of mind, from 500 miles away, that she is getting the care she needs, and I can simply be her daughter when I phone or visit. I want that for all of our clients and their families!"
Chris Head truly has a servant's heart when it comes to the seniors in our community and their families. Having grown up in a large, extended family that was almost clannish in their closeness, Chris was taught from infancy to respect and honor his elders. He watched his grandmother grapple with dementia and learned how devastating that disease can be.
In 2001 Chris and Betsy purchased their first Home Instead Senior Care franchise in Roanoke, Va. He saw the opportunity as a great business concept, but more than that, as a wonderful way to impact his community and change lives. With a strong entrepreneural drive, and a background in both ministry and business, as well as a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Georgia in Music Education, Chris brings a very diverse background to his business ownership.
In 2011, ten years after the purchase of that first franchise territory, Chris was asked to run for office, and was elected as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates serving the 17th district. In this capacity, Chris has taken his passion for serving seniors and his understanding of the complexities of owning a small business, along with his knowledge of the homecare industry, and has become a dynamic member of Virginia's General Assembly. Chris uses his diverse background to advocate for seniors all across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Michelle has overseen the entire operation of Home Instead Senior Care in Roanoke and Lynchburg since 2009. Together with her talented staff, she works tirelessly to ensure that Home Instead clients receive the best possible care with every CAREGiver visit. She provides leadership and management of all departments including finance, staffing, human resources, client services, and marketing and is responsible for overall profitability and achievement of operational goals. Michelle indeed has a servant’s heart and a real passion for helping our clients and their families.
Kim has been with Home Instead Senior Care since 2009. Kim provides leadership and management of the HR Department, focusing on operational efficiency by managing the outcomes of the department's activities. As the Human Resources Manager, Kim is responsible for the hiring, training, and supervision of our recruitment and training staff, our nursing staff, and also oversees the day to day operations of our Lynchburg office. “I love working for Home Instead Senior Care because I truly feel like we make a difference every day!”
Krista hails from the Lynchburg area. She holds a degree in Psychology from JMU and has worked in the Human Services field providing direct care, case management, and supervision. In 2000 Krista relocated with her husband to the Outer Banks of NC where she worked in real estate and property management for 15 years. They returned in 2015 as Krista's father had a stroke and the couple wanted to be closer to home to help provide care. After attending a Fearless Caregiver conference at Lynchburg College in early 2015, gathering information about potential services for her father, Krista said, "I met some amazing ladies who worked for Home Instead, and I knew that's where I wanted to spend my days, making a difference in the lives of others...Home Instead has become another 'home' for me, and I am blessed every day to work here!"
Vickie Meeks Miller is a married mother of two who enjoys spending time with her family. She is a Roanoke, Virginia native, a graduate of Old Dominion University with degrees in Public Relations and Management, and is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner. Vickie resided in Washington, DC for many years before returning to Roanoke to promote and market her beloved hometown as a tourism and destination professional. Caring for others has always been important to Vickie, and she has cared for many seniors over the years. It is this heart for CAREGiving that led Vickie to Home Instead Senior Care to train competent CAREGivers who are the face of the company. Vickie states that "it is so rewarding to be a resource to CAREGivers and provide them with instruction and the tools necessary to provide expert care, enhancing the lives of countless seniors, as well as providing peace of mind to their families".
Rachel is originally from Lynchburg and graduated from Liberty University in 2009 with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Before becoming a nurse, Rachel worked as a Personal Care CAREGiver for Home Instead Senior Care. In her capacity as a Personal Care Coordinator, Rachel provides assessments and case management of clients that require personal care. She meets with potential clients to develop an initial plan of care and also with established clients to monitor their ongoing care plan. Rachel also provides the hands-on personal care portion of CAREGiver training. She has been in her position since 2015 and loves helping the seniors in our community!
Scott brings a depth of knowledge to the position of Marketing Services Manager. He came to Home Instead in 2005 as a CAREGiver, having served as a family caregiver to his mother. Scott has served in various roles over time with Home Instead including quality assurance and acting as a liaison between Home Instead and referral providers. In addition to his current position as Marketing Services Manager, Scott is also a member of the Leadership Team. In conjunction with franchise leadership, he develops sales and marketing plans and focuses on meeting, or exceeding, established goals. During care consultations, Scott strives to determine each client’s specific needs and then creates a tailored service plan to ensure high-quality care. Scott manages the activities of the Admissions Coordinator, two Marketing & Admissions Coordinators, and the Administrative Assistant position in the Roanoke office. His knowledge of senior resources is comprehensive and almost as big as his heart!
Amelia joined our Home Instead family in 2014 as a Client Services Specialist, and in 2017 became our Admissions Coordinator. She dedicates her time to helping seniors, and their families, find the best solution to their needs. Amelia also networks with referral providers in the medical community, establishing relationships. Prior to Home Instead Amelia has worked with seniors in rehab facilities, medical billing and also diabetic supplies. She felt a sense of calling to Home Instead after being a caregiver for a friend who was having trouble living on her own. She says, "It was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. I feel so blessed every day to be a part of the Home Instead family. It is an honor to work for such an amazing company that cares so deeply about making a difference in the lives of our seniors and their families!"
Ebony joined the Home Instead team in 2016 as an Administrative Assistant and moved to her current position as Admissions Coordinator in 2017. In her role, Ebony takes new client inquiries, gathers information, and sets up care consultation appointments. Before coming to Home Instead, Ebony was employed as a licensed, Certified Nursing Assistant. She is the mother of four beautiful daughters and enjoys outdoor activities. Ebony has a passion for helping seniors. "I enjoy working at Home Instead because I get to work with our wonderful clients and CAREGivers!"
Lynne Latino brings wisdom and discipline to the position of Client Services Manager. She has a rich history of service with our company, having served in 2009 and 2010 as a Companion and Personal CAREGiver. Lynne left us late in 2010 to serve as a caregiver to her own family. After several years she returned to Home Instead and is now our Client Services Manager and a member of the Leadership Team. Lynne manages two Client Care Coordinators, one in Roanoke and also one in Lynchburg, Virginia. Lynne conducts care consultations and performs quality assurance visits to provide the best care to clients. She maintains open lines of communication with clients, their families, CAREGivers, and the scheduling and marketing departments. In Lynne's own words, "I dedicate my efforts to helping our clients receive the quality care that Home Instead offers to the seniors in our community."
Briana joined Home Instead Senior Care in 2013 as a CAREGiver. In 2017 she became our Administrative Assistant and within a year was promoted to Client Care Coordinator. In her role, Briana has extensive interaction with clients and families and is responsible for client satisfaction and retention by executing quality assurance visits and maintaining accurate documentation. "I thoroughly enjoy taking care of our seniors and seeing that they get the care they need. It's nice to see BOTH sides, from being a CG and a member of the amazing team of office staff."
Stephanie manages our Staffing Department and is a member of the Leadership Team. She oversees Home Instead's Staff Coordinators whose primary responsibilities are matching qualified CAREGivers with Clients and scheduling all shift assignments per company standards and protocols. Stephanie joined our team in 2007. "The thing I love the most about my job is knowing that I am helping the seniors in my community to stay in their homes. I enjoy spending my free time with my four children, going to their games and school events."
In her role as Staff Coordinator, Candace matches qualified CAREGivers with clients. She manages new client schedules, schedule changes, and fields questions from both clients and CAREGivers. Before working as a Staff Coordinator, Candace was an Administrative Assistant at the front desk, greeting everyone who came into our offices on Langhorne Road. Her winning personality and tremendous work ethic gave her the opportunity to move into her new role in staffing in 2014. Candace shares, “I have been with Home Instead Senior Care since 2011 and have enjoyed my job here. It is a great working environment.”
Sidney grew up in Appomattox County and is a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), earning the National FFA Degree. She never saw a career in healthcare for herself. After her grandfather became ill and required a home health nurse, she discovered that senior care was her passion. Sidney worked as a CNA for four years before joining the Home Instead staffing department. "I love knowing that I'm making a difference by being there to support our clients and their loved ones in a time of need. In my free time I enjoy spending my days with my daughter, family, and friends, whether it be at the farm or floating on the river."
Vicky answers phone calls during non-business hours, coordinates back-up care for our clients and fields new client inquiries.
Lenda assists the General Manager in her day to day activities. She oversees the billing department and loves her interaction with our clients! Lenda's passions are her family, her church and her job at Home Instead. She teaches Sunday school and has traveled to Cambodia on a mission trip to work in an orphanage. “I am blessed to be a part of this team who admire and love our seniors.”
