CAREGiver of the Month Stacie Jorden's family tree is full of compassionate souls who include at least six current or former Certified Nursing Assistants. There is Stacie's grandmother, Stacie's mother, Stacie and two sisters and Stacie's daughter.
"Senior care is a family thing with us because we love this career path. We've worked in nursing homes, for different agencies and as private-duty caregivers. This has been my whole career, and I love it," said Stacie, who joined Home Instead Senior Care® of Lubbock in October 2017. "As a family caregiver, I took care of my grandmother a lot. My children and I would sit with her. She loved to be with my kids."
Stacie, who lives near the Home Instead Senior Care office at 1010 Slide Road, frequently drove past the franchise before finally dropping in and applying. "I love it. It is a wonderful job. There is variety: I go to different environments and different homes. There is consistency: One-on-one care is good care," Stacie explained.
When Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Juanita Camacho announced Stacie's CAREGiver of the Month honor on behalf of the award-winning franchise owned by Tracy and Terry Baugh, Juanita said: "Stacie's dedication and commitment to our clients – and to Home Instead Senior Care – have been proved by her desire to meet all the needs of our clients."
Juanita added: "Stacie has a great deal of confidence, and that confidence brings a peace of mind not only to our clients but also to the clients' families. Stacie communicates well with the clients, the clients' families and with the office. She makes sure the office is aware of any changes in our clients' conditions. Stacie's positive attitude is absolutely uplifting to anyone she meets. Stacie can walk into our clients' homes and make them feel comfortable."
Juanita's statement never rang truer than when Stacie began helping a 24/7 client last November. A member of the 92-year-old client's CAREGiver team was surprised when the client accepted Stacie so quickly. The fellow CAREGiver thought Stacie's adjustment period with the client might take months, just as it had with some previous CAREGivers.
"The client and I were doing really well by the second day. She thinks of me as a friend," said Stacie, who assists the client on Saturdays and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 7. By the time Stacie arrives on Sundays, the client already has attended a church service. "She is ending a short nap when I get there, and she's ready to get in the car. I hear, 'Where are we going now?' We don't spend a lot of time at her home."
Stacie added: "Her mobility is good for her age, but I stay close to her. She loves to go out to eat and shop. When we go shopping, she doesn't buy much. I try to give her some variety, so we go to different places."
Stacie has another regular client, a man in his late 70s. Stacie said: "I love him. He's a sweetheart of a gentleman." Stacie assists him on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the late afternoons and evenings. "I've helped him for more than a year," Stacie added. "He's a client who is comfortable with remaining at home. He uses a walker, and I am a standby assist. He's got a routine where I prepare supper, find "Little House on the Prairie" and other shows he likes, and then help him for bedtime."
Pointing to the contrasting clients, Stacie said, "There is a variety to the work. Every client is different and has different challenges. None of the experiences is the same. One thing is always constant – the clients need help of some kind, and I am glad to provide it."
