Looking for someone to
deliver a rousing 30-minute speech about senior caregiving? Because of her
unassuming demeanor, Sabrina Valdez might not be the best candidate, but she’d
find a way to pull it off while mixing in a little of her subtle humor and
Looking for someone who
provides quietly superb and compassionate care for any client, even on the most
challenging days? Sabrina’s your person, no doubt about it. In fact, she’s a CAREGiver
of the Month for Home
Instead Senior Care® of Lubbock.
Juanita Camacho said: “Sabrina
is kind and caring, a woman of very few words, but she lets her actions speak
for her. She does a great job and being mild-mannered is an asset in senior
care. Sabrina assists some of our higher-need clients and does it so
efficiently. Sabrina works diligently to meet all the needs of our clients and
gives them her undivided attention.”
This is Sabrina’s second
stint with the award-winning franchise that’s owned by Tracy and Terry Baugh.
At her mother’s suggestion, Sabrina went online to search for home-care jobs
and found Home Instead Senior Care in 2013. She worked as a CAREGiver for six
months before she took college classes. Sabrina returned to Home Instead Senior
Care in February 2016, and she was honored in March 2018 as CAREGiver of the

mother suggested I try being a CAREGiver before deciding whether to pursue
nursing. I’m taking a break from college and enjoying my job as a CAREGiver,”
explained Sabrina, who has two pets, a shy cat and outgoing husky and loves
taking care of animals.

the help to stay home.
far as the clients go, you see so many different people from different walks of
life. Many of them came from outside the state. One client is a descendant of
the people who started a Texas town, so I meet a lot of interesting people.”
One of Sabrina’s clients
includes a man she has assisted for two years. “I am with him three times a
week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. He misses me when I am not there,”
Sabrina noted. The man is one of four regular clients, and Sabrina works each
day of week while also accepting fill-in shifts. Said Juanita: “We appreciate
the fact that Sabrina has really helped us on weekends, and she does it without
hesitation. Sabrina truly represents the heart of a CAREGiver and is a
good representative for our company.”
Sabrina’s devotion to
seniors is clear: She even spends holidays, usually Christmas and New Year’s
Day, with one client. “He is in his 80s. He lives near his son, and they spend
their ‘holiday’ together before the actual holiday. The son and his family then
go out of town, but the client does not want to sit on an airplane. He plans
our holidays, and all he wants on those days is a nice lunch, nothing special,
and a relaxed day,” Sabrina said. “He thinks I am a good cook, and his tastes
are basic. Fried egg sandwich is one of his favorites. All in all, there is
nothing complicated, and the time with him is relaxing.”
Sabrina was with a female client at a care community until 3 p.m. “They had a
big brunch spread in the dining room. For another lady client and her daughter,
I spent a different Thanksgiving with them. My parents live in Corpus Christi,
and that’s just too far to go for one day, so this is a good way for me to
enjoy the day,” Sabrina said.
When Sabrina peers into
the future, she clearly sees her clients. “I enjoy the job. It has been a good
one. If I go back to school, I’d liked to continue to work for Home Instead
Senior Care,” Sabrina said.
