For the second time in less than two years, Maureen Hill has been honored as CAREGiver of the Month at Home Instead Senior Care® of Lubbock. Maureen’s first honor came in September 2014, almost nine years after her mother died. Maureen’s constant care had allowed her mother to remain in her own home. In fact, Maureen had even rented an apartment near her mother’s house to remain in close contact while still maintaining her own home. Maureen’s first CAREGiver of the Month award also came one year after Maureen had joined Home Instead Senior Care on Sept. 10, 2013. The second honor was announced for June 2016. “Taking care of Mom was a fulfilling experience. I got closer to her and enjoyed her more than I ever would have if I had not been there for her,” Maureen said. At Home Instead Senior Care, Maureen’s responsibilities include meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, companionship, and transportation and errands. In addition to those services, Maureen and other CAREGivers offer personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence, cognitive impairment and mobility. By expertly doing so, Maureen not only assists her clients, but helps their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.Home Instead Senior Care’s guiding principles are also its employees’ mantra: CAREGivers demonstrate their commitment to their clients by honoring God in all they do; treating their clients and their families with dignity and respect; embracing personal growth in an attempt to continually improve the quality of their care through franchise training; and building value in their service to others. To build on their knowledge and experience, Maureen and other CAREGivers are offered the opportunity to complete the Home Instead Senior Care network’s Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Dementias CARE: Changing Aging Through Research and Education® Training Program. CAREGivers who are trained in the CARE program have a passion to work with Alzheimer’s disease clients and receive ongoing classroom training and testing. The Home Instead Senior Care program offers a personal approach to taking care of seniors with Alzheimer’s disease at home – where 60 to 70 percent live, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. It is a unique program that has received acclaim and endorsements from experts. The Home Instead Senior Care approach of encouragement and assistance helps those with dementia and their family members cope with the challenges of memory loss. CAREGivers also can provide assistance with establishing a regular routine and restoring the simple pleasures of life, among the best non-medical treatments for the disease.Office Manager Juanita Camacho did not hold back on the franchise’s praise for Maureen. “Maureen is a real trooper who is always ready to go above and beyond to help our clients,” said Juanita, who also announced Maureen’s accolade on behalf of the franchise in September 2014. “Maureen has a strong personality, and she does well with our high-needs clients. Maureen is a take-charge type of person who knows what needs to be done and does not hesitate to get things done. For Maureen, there is no such thing as ‘it can wait until tomorrow’ if a challenge or duty is in her path. Rest assured, it will get done today. While caregiving is very personal to her, she also honors professional boundaries.”Juanita added: “Maureen’s self-confidence gives our clients and their families a sense of security and peace of mind because they know they and their senior loved ones are in good hands. In addition, Maureen communicates well verbally and in writing with office staff, co-workers, medical professionals and family members. Two things go hand-in-hand with Maureen: She is a well-rounded person and CAREGiver.”
