Amanda Is Always in Caregiving Mode

“To Us, It’s Personal” is the guiding principle for Home Instead Senior Care® of Lubbock. CAREGiver of the Month Amanda Wright-Stenstrom lives those words 24 hours a day, seven days a week whether she’s with a client or not because of her own family situation.

“Most of my experience has been taking care of my son with special needs. I have been his primary caregiver and am so blessed to be his mom. I also helped care for my dad and grandmother,” said Amanda, who was selected for the September honors by the award-winning franchise owned by Tracy and Terry Baugh.

Office Manager Juanita Camacho said, “Amanda is so positive that even if she is struggling with a personal issue, no one would ever know it. She always puts the needs of our client ahead of her own. She keeps a smile, and her wonderful attitude never changes. She radiates joy to all with whom she comes in contact and makes a difference in the lives of all those for whom she cares.”

Amanda explained how she became a CAREGiver in January 2015: “I found out about Home Instead Senior Care from someone in the education field. My son had the most amazing teacher, and she was a CAREGiver with Home Instead Senior Care.”

While assisting three to four regular clients plus fill-in opportunities with others, Amanda’s responsibilities include meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, companionship, and transportation and errands. In addition to those services, Amanda and other CAREGivers offer personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence, cognitive impairment and mobility. By expertly doing so, Amanda not only assists her clients, but helps their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

Home Instead Senior Care’s CAREGivers demonstrate their commitment to their clients by honoring God in all they do; treating their clients and their families with dignity and respect; embracing personal growth in an attempt to continually improve the quality of their care through franchise training; and building value in their service to others.

To build on their knowledge and experience, Amanda and other CAREGivers are offered the opportunity to complete the Home Instead Senior Care network’s Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Dementias CARE: Changing Aging Through Research and Education® Training Program.

CAREGivers who are trained in the CARE program have a passion to work with Alzheimer’s disease clients and receive ongoing classroom training and testing. The Home Instead Senior Care program offers a personal approach to taking care of seniors with Alzheimer’s disease at home – where 60 to 70 percent live, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. It is a unique program that has received acclaim and endorsements from experts.

The Home Instead Senior Care approach of encouragement and assistance helps those with dementia and their family members cope with the challenges of memory loss. CAREGivers also can provide assistance with establishing a regular routine and restoring the simple pleasures of life, among the best non-medical treatments for the disease.

“I have had a few clients with dementia,” Amanda said. “I try to enter their world and interact with them on their level. I love taking care of my clients.”  Juanita agreed, saying: “Amanda puts our clients at ease with her ability to assess their needs and immediately go into action to provide the client with quality service.”

By doing so, Juanita pointed out Amanda has quickly proved herself as an “A Team” CAREGiver.
“Amanda has a very compassionate heart and gives our clients’ families a peace of mind that is so important to everyone,” Juanita said. “She loves helping others, and it shows in her kind and caring disposition and calming demeanor. Amanda goes above and beyond in all situations.
She is, without a doubt, a nominee for the Hall of Fame of unsung heroes.”
