Hello! My name is Marcia Johnson, I am the Director of Home Instead Senior Care-Brooklyn.Allow me this opportunity to tell you how I got started in the business of homecare for the elderly.I am a graduate of Adelphi University with a Bachelors in business Administration. After 15 years of working in the private sector industry, in a managerial capacity, I knew that it was time for a change in career. I often thought about how I might make a difference in the lives of the people and felt that my current career limited my ability to help on a personal level.it was time for a career change. I decided that I could make a difference in the lives of children.I attended Brooklyn College and completed course work in the School of Education. I received a Master in Education and began teaching in the New York City Public School as an Elementary School Teacher. After 2 years working in the New York City Public School, my husband's company transferred him to Tokyo, Japan. Our family moved to Japan and we lived there for 4 years! When we moved back to the United States, I knew that I wanted to continue working in a capacity in which I could help people.I was drawn to Home Instead Senior Care because I saw tremendous potential to make a difference in the lives of seniors, families and communities. Also my grandmother suffered with Alzheimer's / Dementia, and I personally know the heartache and struggles that families endure when caring for a loved one aging in this condition. When I found out that the founders of Home Instead Senior Care, Paul and Laurie Hogan, started the company because their own family struggled with a loved one who suffered for Alzheimer's / Dementia, I knew that I found where I belonged.July 2003, my husband and I opened Home Instead Senior Care-Brooklyn. I feel tremendously blessed that over the last 10 years, we have been able to make a difference in the lives of over 600 seniors, their families and their communities. We have performed over 600,000 hours of home care services over the past 10 years.......to us it's personal.
