“WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA and TOYS FOR TOTS’

In December “Toys for Tots” will be collecting toys for distribution to children in the Sanford/Springvale area. Make this Holiday Season a happy one for all needy children in our area by contributing a new toy to this wonderful cause. The Marine Corps League coordinates this activity so look for the “Toys for Tots” boxes in the local area and donate your new toys that bring smiles to all the Children who benefit from the Marines efforts.

The “Wreaths Across AMERICA” ceremony will be conducted at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Stanley Road, Springvale on December 13th starting at 12:00 Noon. The public is invited to see Seven Ceremonial Wreaths placed to remember those who served honor their sacrifices and teach our younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms. Specially designed wreaths for the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA’s will be placed on memorials during a ceremony which will coincide with participating locations across the country. Tim and Cindy DeCosta of Rolling Thunder®, Maine Chapter 1 will be conducting the ceremony at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery. If, you would like to sponsor a wreath, or like more information on WAA call Cindy DeCosta at 207-892-5333 .

The Annual “TOYS for TOTS” DISTRIBUTION to parents will be held on Friday, December 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 20tht from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Saint Ignatius Hall, 22 Riverside Rd., Sanford. Parents and Guardians must register in advance in order to shop. At the Church they will be escorted by a volunteer to a distribution room where unwrapped toys organized by age –appropriateness will be sorted onto tables. Parents will select toys for their children. To register with “Toys for Tots” the website is: ToysforTots.org check State of Maine and York County South. Then Request Toys and then click where it says: CLICK HERE TO APPLY to fill out an application. We will reply by email with a day and time. Registrations close December 8th. Most libraries have computers for people to use and some folks have family/friends with a computer - or perhaps a case manager or other professional who can help. Once your registration form is received, you will be sent an e-mail confirming your appointment day and time. Toys for Tots provides for children 0-18 and those over 18 with special needs. Toys for Tots donation boxes are in many locations in York County. Cash donations can be made at the website by clicking on donate and choosing Southern York County or Springvale Toys for Tots you may also send a check, payable to Toys for Tots at: Parent Resource Center, PO Box 91, Springvale, Me. 04083

  • Tuesday, Dec.2: Toys for Tots: Dine to Donate at Applebee’s Sanford. E- mail SpringvaleTFT@live.com to get tickets.
  • Wednesday. Dec 3: American Legion Post 19 will hold its general meeting at 6:45 p.m. at its Main Street headquarters
  • Wed. Dec. 3: Toys for Tots Evening of Comedy at TRAINS with Krazy Jake Tickets $15.00 available at TRAINS Rte 202, Lebanon.
  • Sunday, Dec. 7: “Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance Ceremony” Boat Ramp, Number One Pond, Sanford, Me. at 9:00 a.m. sponsored by the Veterans Memorial Committee. All Veterans & Public Welcome! Refreshments after event for participants at the American Legion Post #19, Main St. Sanford.
  • Sunday, Dec.7: the AMVETS Post 3 in Sanford will host a Toys for Tots Event from 1 p.m. 5:00 p.m. at AMVETS Post Hall on School Street. There will be Karaoke, Singing, Dancing, Christmas Music and lots of Fun. The Public is Welcome and Admission is only an unwrapped Toy Worth at least $10.00. This is a great way to help support these Tots? If, you can’t join us Drop Off a toy at the AMVETS or any Toys for Tots collection box in the area.
  • Monday, Dec. 8: VFW Post 9935 will hold a general meeting at its School Street headquarters at 7:00 p.m. Social Hour at 6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday Dec. 10: AMVETS Post 3 will hold its general meeting at its School Street Headquarters at 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 11: “ANNUAL VET CENTER – HOLIDAY DINNER”. 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Sanford Vet Center, 628 Main St. Springvale. Feel free to bring family and friends. Sponsored by the American Legion Post #19 and Legion Auxiliary.
  • Sunday, Dec. 14: Vietnam Veterans of America, S. Maine Chapter will hold its general meeting at 1:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 14: Rolling Thunder® will hold a general meeting at AMVETS Post 3 on School Street at noon.
  • Monday, Dec. 15: VFW Ladies Auxiliary will hold a meeting at VFW Post #9935 Starting at 6:00 p.m.
  • Monday, Dec. 15: Sons of American Legion will meet at 6:00 p.m. at Legion Hall at 6:00 p.m.
  • Monday. Dec. 15: American Legion Auxiliary hold a meeting at 6:00 p.m. at Post Main Street Headquarters
  • Tues: Dec. 16: VFW Men’s Auxiliary will meet at VFW Post Headquarters, SchoolStreet at 7:00 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 19: “TOYS FOR TOTS” TOY DISTRIBUTION from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Hall, Sanford, Maine
  • Saturday, Dec. 20: “TOYS FOR TOTS” TOY DISTRIBUTION from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Hall, Sanford, Maine
  • Tues: Dec. 23: DAV will have a General Meeting at Post #9935 at 7:00 p.m.

THURSDAY, Dec. 25: CHRISTMAS DAY

Christmas Parties for member’s children and grand children and New Years Eve Galas are being held by Veterans organizations in the area for their members and guests, members of the organizations are urged to check them out and join in the Christmas and New Years Festivities.
