Kevin has won our CAREGiver of the year award for 2015 and we are so thrilled to have him on our team. Kevin started with Home Instead in
April 2013 and has been an exemplary CAREGiver the past few years. He is compassionate, experienced, loyal and very dependable, but what makes Kevin truly amazing in his job is his good cheer and humor. Anyone who
has had an opportunity to work with Kevin knows that he always brings a smile. His laugh is infectious and he inspires those around him.
Kevin came to CAREGiving with personal experience caring for a loved one and his experience shows, not only in his excellent care giving abilities but in his depth of understanding for his clients and their families. Kevin also proudly served in the United States Army for 20 years; he was honorably discharged and highly decorated. Earning several awards for his service to our country, including the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Achievement Award and the Southeast Asia Service Award with 3 bronze service stars.
Not surprisingly, Kevin brings commitment and honor to his clients and his work at Home Instead. We thank him for his service to our country and to his clients. We are so proud of all he offers Home Instead!
Thank you Kevin!
Denise has been with Home Instead since 2006 and we are very lucky to have her. She is an outstanding CAREGiver and won our CAREGiver of the Year award for 2014. When asked what she values in her work as a CAREGiver Denise says "she loves being able to be herself." For her, caregiving is not a job "it's a purpose and a pleasure to give back."
Her clients not only give her warmth and happiness, they also teach her new things. Denise recalls how one of her clients taught her about rock gardening a few summers ago. Her client asked her to sit down and said "I want you to watch me do my rock garden." Having her client share her love of gardening was a very special moment for Denise, because she had an opportunity to learn and give at the same time. She now has her own garden at home and thanks her client for giving her the passion for it. For Denise, her garden is a place where giving and receiving have come full circle.
When asked about working with Home Instead, Denise says she "loves being part of this team." What matters every day is being able to be involved with something where she gives 100 percent. She loves having an opportunity to "pay it forward".
Thank you Denise!
Naveen started with us in 2012 and in September of 2015 received his 5000 hours of service award. He is an exceptional CAREGiver and brings to his work a strong background in health care. Naveen is also studying for the nursing boards here in Delaware. We are very proud of his work with us as well as his continuing professional studies.
When asked what he values most in his work, he says it's "the smile on his client's face and the thank you for being here" at the end of the day. For Naveen his client's improvement, physically and socially, over the past few years is what makes him most proud. Having been in a wheel chair, his client is now able to use his walker. Through hard work and determination on both sides, Naveen has helped his client gain strength and mobility; he is now able to go shopping and out to meals with his wife and family. Seeing the change in his client's physical capabilities, and most importantly, his quality of life, gives Naveen a strong sense of purpose. Naveen says the thing that matters each shift is making the client happy.
Thank you Naveen!
Lawan has been with us since 2014 and her values are clear in her great care. She values the well-being of others and that is why she loves being a Home Instead CAREGiver. Her clients give her many things, but a few of her favorite are "hugs, smiles, and love." She also says she enjoys being able to talk with Home Instead staff and coworkers and feels she is listened to and supported here.
Lawan came to professional CAREGiving from personal experience caring for her own mother as well as a close friend. She said she knew it was what she wanted to do because of her "strong desire to give".Lawan shared a story with us about a day she and her client were going to an appointment and a man near her was using profane language, her client said "there is a lady in your presence, can you have some manners." This memory brought a big smile to Lawan's face, because she and her client had developed a relationship that was based on more than the care, it was based on respect and friendship.
Every shift she appreciates "the smiles, the conversation, the listening, the remembering, and all the great stories."
Thank you Lawan!
Paul came to Home Instead in the spring of 2015 and he has made a huge impact in that time.
For Paul, how we treat seniors says a lot about who we are as people. "Society is judged by how we treat the elderly" he said. When it comes CAREGiving Paul 's traditional values guide him, "love of God and neighbor".
Having lost his own father early in life Paul missed time with his Dad as he aged and getting to spend time with his clients gives him an opportunity to learn from them. He says they bring him wisdom and inspiration.
His clients also show him an example of "never giving up". He told us about how one of his clients who is no longer able to walk still swims every week. Paul helps him get to the pool, but it's his client's commitment to continue doing the things he loves that inspires Paul. With a little extra help he is able to keep swimming and that not only helps his body stay strong but his spirit too.
Thank you Paul!
