Since 2003, Home Instead Senior Care has been making an impact on the lives of seniors, their families, and their caregivers in Hillsborough County. Being part of a community means giving back to the community you live and work in. Here are some ways Home Instead Senior Care has given back to the Brandon community over the years.
Operation Medicine Cabinet - Since December 2006, Home Instead Senior Care has been a
proud participant in Operation Medicine Cabinet (OMC). This program is designed to help our environment, ensure the safety of our seniors and protect our children from accidental overdose with unused or expired prescriptions and over the counter medications. OMC is a proper disposal program, in which we partner with Hillsborough County Sheriff's office, collect these medications, and incinerate them. With this bi-annual event, to date, we have disposed of over 6,000 pounds of medications.
Be a Santa to a Senior - This annual program was created to ensure that Brandon seniors
who may not have family or visitors around Christmas time are acknowledged with a gift. In the early fall, we collect names of these seniors in local facilities along with their wish list of needed items. In November, Tampa area employers, Chambers of Commerce, and SHAPES Total Fitness centers showcase Christmas trees bearing paper ornaments with the gender of the senior and a few gift ideas. Shoppers can take an ornament from the tree, purchase a gift and return it to the tree locations. Gifts are collected by our staff, along with volunteers from the area, who wrap and deliver them to the local seniors. Since 2006, the Hillsborough County office has helped over 2,200 seniors smile.
