Barbara - CAREGiver of the Year 2014

Barbara - CAREGiver of the Year 2014

“To be a CAREGiver at Home Instead Senior Care is not a job it’s a lifestyle. To go into a Client’s home and make them smile, make them happy, make them feel like their life means something is what it’s all about”. These are words that our 2014 nominee Barbara P. lives by. Barbara joined HISC in 2010 during a difficult time in her life as she was caring for her husband who was terminally ill. She felt that joining our team would not only make her a better CAREGiver to her husband but would allow her to make a difference in other people’s lives. Unfortunately, Barbara’s husband lost his battle in July 2011. She took a month off and returned ready to take on any and all shifts available.

Barbara has always been the CAREGiver that could handle our most “challenging” of Clients. When most CAREGivers didn’t want to go back, Barbara was the one picking up more shifts and seemed to have a way with everyone. Barbara has worked with more than 60 Clients since joining HISC and has truly made an impact on each and every one of them.

She has developed a very special relationship in particular with a couple she has cared for the past 3 years. Barbara focuses mostly on Mrs. and according to them, is not their CAREGiver, she is their friend. Barbara has become a confidant to the Client’s and always encourages Mrs. when she is down or feeling as if she cannot go on. This relationship became especially meaningful when earlier this year, Mrs. found out her cancer has returned. Barbara has been that motivator throughout the chemotherapy allowing her to cry, vent, get mad, laugh or just sit together in silence.

What makes Barbara stand out even more is that she not only changes the lives of our Clients… she saves them. On more than one occasion, Barbara has been faced with life-threatening issues with Clients and has utilized her training and skills to ensure they are well taken care of, even in the worst of times and keeps calm throughout the toughest of situations.

Congratulations Barbara, we are so proud to have you on our team and represent our office as our “2014 CAREGiver of the Year”!
