Maggie Deane Named CAREGiver of the Year
As one of the youngest members of the Home Instead, Erie, team, Maggie Deane has enhanced the lives of a client's family to such a dramatic extent, she was named our 2014 CAREGiver of the Year.
According to Dr. Bill Makarowski, Maggie's client since early 2013, "Knowing that I have a seizure disorder and brain cancer has left me with many moments of despair. Not being allowed to drive an automobile or return to work has definitely had a major impact on the life as I know it. Many would say that I'm worse off now than I was before all of the events of the past year transpired.
"But, what do "they" know? Without those changes, I never would have met Maggie. She is a caregiver employed by Home Instead. Her giving care comes from her heart not because it's her job title. She is kind and gentle most of the time. When necessary, however, she gives me enough of a kick that motivates me to move forward.
"My family and I feel very blessed to have had Maggie become a big part of our lives. She has a genuine sparkle in her personality that provides a fresh beacon of sunshine every day that she is with me. No day can ever stay gray in her presence."
If you attended the annual Holiday CAREGiver Party recently, you witnessed the announcement of this award. The emotion at the time of announcement as Maggie witnessed her entire family along with the Makarowski's family coming through the doors shouting, "Maggie Deane, Maggie Deane!" could only be surpassed by the letters read aloud by Dianne Cunningham, HISC owner and Bill Makarowski, as each shared why they believed Maggie deserved the CAREGiver of the Year award.
CAREGivers who were present at the party said over and over how bowled over with emotion they were with Maggie's caregiver story. According to one, "This is a story that will be hard to beat as CAREGiver of the Year. It is a remarkable relationship. Even the client's (12 year old) grandson told of how Maggie helped he and his grandpa (Bill) be closer. I cried through the whole thing!"
Our sincere appreciation to Maggie for her compassion and dedication. We are also grateful to Bill and his family for having the courage to tell their personal story in an effort to shine a light on Maggie. What a gift! What a match! What a story!
Deborah Goodwin Named CAREGiver of the Month
"I am privileged to work for such a great company. I hope to always make you proud," exclaimed Debra Goodwin when she was congratulated as October's Home Instead Senior Care CAREGiver of the Month. Debra, who has worked for the HISC since Feb. 2, 2012, has developed loving relationships s with her clients, always displaying a sunny disposition. Her positive attitude spills over to her clients as she is also caregiving for a family member. Debbie truly understands what family caregivers go through, both emotionally and physically.
According to Lori White, director of operations, "What I love about Deb is that she does go about her professional caregiving in the same manner as she provides support and care to her own family member-with a can-do attitude and desire to please. She is always the bright spot in her clients' lives!"
