"Home Instead was recommended by two people. We have a healthcare person that comes out twice a week for four hours, and it gives my mother the opportunity to get out of the house to go the store, get her hair done, and things that she would not to do with me. It gives her a little bit sense of independence. The caregiver was wonderful. Once a week, we have to change sheets and towels, and she helps my mother with that. My mother has one duty, and that is to put dishes on the dishwasher or way back into the kitchen shelves; she helps my mother with that. She helps my mother with learning how to use a cell phone because my mother refuses, but at least she is getting her to dial and call using the phone. She helps her get accustomed to the laptop. They are very good; I would highly recommend them.
"Towards the end, mom became a high care, and that really weighed in on my budget. She just needed to be watched. When she was pretty continent, they were excellent. But when she got into total care, I just stopped it because the cost would prohibit us. And at that point, I wanted her at my house anyhow. They still came to take care of her. But I've noticed that her care level went up. Even hospice had a hard time doing a lot of stuff. She just wasn't a single person job. She was in so much pain to move her comfortably. It just didn't seem feasible to pay that money. But they're pretty responsive.
