Dear Roger and Home Instead Staff,

Dear Home Instead,

This is a letter that I have intended to write for a very long time. However, as is often the case, the crises of everyday life crowd out some of our good intentions. In just a few days, it will be Thanksgiving. As I was thinking about this holiday, I realized that one of the people that I am truly thankful for is David (Service Coordinator). While I'm sure you know David well, I'd like to share my perspective as one of your clients.
From the beginning, David jumped right in, trying to grasp the kind of caregiver that was needed. He is a good listener, respectful of boundaries and information that is shared with him, and truly conveys that he cares whether the caregiver is a "good fit" with the person receiving care. I believe that many agencies would take the attitude that they have sent you a caregiver who is willing to do the hours needed, what more could you want? David, on the other hand, understands that availability is only part of the assignment. The personalities of the caregiver and client must also be carefully considered so that the client is not unnecessarily upset by the presence of the caregiver. As you know, this is particularly important where memory loss is involved since the client does not perceive the changes and decline that have occurred in themselves.

Perhaps the one thing that I admire most about David is that he is one of those rare people who can make you feel that your problem is the only one he has, too. While he juggles the multiple needs of all of your clients, I have the luxury of coordinating the care of only one - my mother. I never doubt that David is trying his hardest for my mother. While we may sometimes have unforeseen developments in scheduling, it is never for lack of trying on David's part. It helps that he has a wicked sense of humor which always gives me back my perspective as I try to meet the needs of all the people who depend on me.
Hopefully, you are well aware already of the enormous contribution that David makes to your company. However, I would like to respectfully suggest that you continue to find ways to recognize his efforts all year long. He is an integral part in the success of your business and to lose him would be a sad day for all of us.
