  3. Love the Verb Award Winners 2015

Each year, we nominate deserving administrative staff for our Love (v.) Award.  These staff members live our core value of Love the verb by consistently demonstrating our 8 attributes:
Patience, Kindness, Humility, Selflessness, Respectfulness, Forgiveness, Honesty and Commitment

Please join us in congratulating the following Love (v.) Award winners for 2015:
Kathy Stoll, Liz Catalano, Lori Smith and Tim Francis

Kathy Stoll, Lead Staff Coordinator – Green Bay

Attribute: Kindness

  • “Kathy is one of the kindest people I know. Whenever I call her, at no matter what inconvenient time, she is unfailingly kind and always helpful. Not to be cheesy, but it is like a hug over the phone to talk to her.”
  • “During a very difficult time in my life Kathy was there for me in more ways than I can describe.  In fact, I’m not even sure she realized it.  I’m in awe of her gift to balance good advice without saying too much or asking too many questions.  It’s a special gift she has. She would tell you the simple act of offering someone a ride is no problem. She has no idea how much that ride meant to me.”
  • “From the first time I met Kathy, she has shown nothing but kindness to me and everyone around me.”

Attribute: Respectfulness

  • “No matter what the situation or subject, even if she disagrees, Kathy remains respectful and handles every situation with grace.  I have had the pleasure to work with, learn and grow through listening to her phone conversations; often late into the evening when only a few of us were around.”
  • “Kathy is always respectful to everyone around her, whether it be us, her teammates, a new CAREGiver coming in for orientation or anyone that walks through the door.”

Attribute: Humility

  • “I feel bad sometimes, because Kathy will take the blame for everything. She will apologize for things she should not have to apologize for.  She is not a person that feels like she needs to blame others for any mistakes they may have made.”
  • “Kathy does not boast or brag.  In fact, she rarely mentions her accomplishments.”

Attribute: Commitment/Selflessness

  • “Kathy never leaves anything undone. She will stay at work until every shift is filled.”
  • “Kathy is always working late and a lot of times I even see that she is sending emails from home after hours. She takes the time to make sure that everything is being taken care of to the best of her ability.”

Liz Catalano, Corporate Assistant – Appleton, Cedarburg, Green Bay, Madison

Attribute: Kindness

  • “One of our CAREGivers was embarrassed about her picture on her name badge. She’d had a few different photos taken, but she wasn’t happy with any of them. Liz overheard the CAREGiver say she wished she could just use her Facebook profile picture. Liz sprang into action, worked her magic, and the CAREGiver ended up with a name badge she was proud of.”
  • “I have never seen Liz be unkind to anyone. It is not in her nature. She is a God fearing Christian and only sees the best in everyone.”
  • “Liz is always looking for ways to help people.  She never turns anyone away.  Every time we’ve had a question for her, it’s always answered in a nice, funny, and respectful way.”
  • “One day earlier this fall, Liz noticed a woman crying outside the drive-thru at Burger King across the street from our office.  She took the time to make sure this woman was ok, and found out what was going on.  It turns out she was upset because her hours got cut, and she wasn’t sure how she’d pay her bills.  Liz invited her over to our CAREGiver Café to have a cup of coffee and get out of the cold for as long as she needed.”

Attribute: Patience

  • “Liz overheard one of our CAREGivers mention how hot and uncomfortable her polo shirt made her in the summer. She said immediately, “Let’s go on the website and see if we can find you something cooler.” It took almost an hour to find a garment that fit all the requirements for the CAREGiver. Liz never demonstrated any impatience, and the CAREGiver was perspiration-free for the rest of summer.”

Attribute: Commitment

  • “Liz did everything she could to support the branches during the change to a new system, and became the go-to person for questions. She stayed L-O-N-G hours, and was totally committed to getting us through the transition!
  • “Liz is so committed to her position.  I notice many of her emails come later, during off-hours.”
  • I’ve never heard Liz say, “That’s just the way it is.”  If something isn’t right, she can’t rest until it is right.”
  • Liz’s long and late hours show that she does not put herself first over the needs of the business.  She is the go-to person for so much, and she never asks for a thing in return.”

Attribute: Honesty

  • “Liz has a “tell it like it is” attitude, but it’s not with the intent of “I told you so”.  She is honest with you for the sake of helping you improve and correct mistakes.  She’ll even fix your collar for you or tell you that you’ve got something funky in your teeth or your hair.”

Attribute: Selflessness

  • “Liz always makes time for everyone when they need her. She loves to assist others with their work.”
  • “Liz takes time out of her day for everyone.  You never hear her try to rush people through conversations.  She makes everyone feel as if she has all the time in the world for them.”

Lori Smith, Director of Impressions – Appleton

Attribute: Kindness

  • “We had a CAREGiver that was having a rough week.  When the CAREGiver came into the office, Lori took the initiative to take her into the café and meet with her.  Our CAREGiver called later during the day to let me know how wonderful Lori was and how she helped her through some issues.  She truly felt like Lori was her counselor and friend.”
  • “Lori is not just kind to those clients and CAREGivers who come in to Home Instead.  She gives the CAREGivers a quiet, private place and transforms herself into a counselor.  She understands the CAREGivers concerns, and makes sure they feel like they are the ONLY thing that matters at that time.”

Attribute: Selflessness

  • “Lori is always willing to lend a hand where needed in the office, even if it’s a task she’s never done before. She comes in on her days off to take care of necessary items that have a deadline like decorating the café for Halloween, and by doing necessary office shopping on her personal time. She goes out of her way to make things easier on our staff, even if it means self-sacrifice. She repeatedly puts others before herself and does so with pleasure!”

Attribute: Patience

  • “CAREGivers want to be heard, rather than just have their requests granted. Lori takes that time to always listen to their stories.  She demonstrates patience in her daily routine. She is never one to judge or jump to quick conclusions.”

Tim Francis, Home Care Coordinator – Madison

Attribute: Humility

  • “Tim apologizes when he’s wrong.  He is a servant of the Lord and it shows in everything he does.”
  • “Humility was defined on an old rugged cross 2,000 years ago. With it being defined then, it is humanity’s job to live it out in our daily lives. Tim strives to do just that, every day in every encounter with staff and our clients.”

Attribute: Commitment

  • “Tim defines the word commitment. He is dedicated to the cause at the branch and he demonstrates that dedication with his tireless activity in the field, his early start and stay late times and his pursuit of making Home Instead the best business it possibly can be.”
  • “Tim’s selfless attitude is demonstrated over and over again in his willingness to help at any time in any situation. Even if that means making an introduction on a weekend for a new CAREGiver.”

Attribute: Honesty

  • “Tim is honest with me when my attitude affected my job performance.”
  • “He is an honest and trustworthy friend and associate.”

Attribute: Kindness

  • “Tim always has a good thing to say about everyone!  I’ve never heard him speak negatively about anyone.”
  • “Tim has a gentle, loving spirit and has such a positive, kind outlook with everyone he meets.”
  • “I have had the pleasure of observing Tim’s kindness to both CAREGivers and clients alike. He is patient and kind with everyone that he comes in contact with, he is truly a great representative of Home Instead in the field.”

Attribute: Respectfulness

  • “Tim treats everyone with dignity and respect.  There are times we don’t agree, but he never speaks ill of anyone afterwards.”
