Our Inspiration...

In a high school biography assignment, our Grandpa al.JPGfranchise owner Steve Nooyen had referred to his Grandpa Al as "Super Man" - and in many ways, he was.  Grandpa Al was a caring husband, father of 12, a grandfather, farmer, school bus driver, banjo player and singer in the church choir; in many ways an ordinary man.  But to those who really knew him like Steve, he was a real "Super Man" - he was characteristically dependable to a fault and a true role model when it came to hard, honest work.

However, by the early 1990's when Grandpa Al was in his mid 80's, he had changed.  He oftentimes became agitated and confused over routine things like setting the thermostat in the house or even telling time.  This onset of dementia made it harder and harder for his family, as large as it was, to ensure that he was safe and properly cared for in his long-time Greenleaf home near the family farm.

As a result, despite his resistance, Al DeCleene was relocated to a Green Bay area assisted living facility where he spent his remaining days.  This transition was hard for Grandpa Al, but it was the best option the family had available at the time.

It was through this family experience that Steve decided to open Wisconsin's very first Home Instead Senior Care franchise in 1997.  His goal was to provide seniors like his Grandpa Al and their families more options as they cope with the challenges of aging at home.  Steve saw firsthand how difficult the transition of relocating was for Grandpa Al, and wanted to help other seniors stay "home instead."  The in home care services provided by our CAREGivers allows seniors to stay at home, even as their care plan changes as they age.
