About Our Caregivers

Home Instead CAREGiver

We love our CAREGiversSM. These devoted folks share a deep passion for delivering top-notch home care to your family. However, when you bring a stranger into your home you want more than someone who's kindhearted. You are trusting this individual with your loved one's safety and well-being, and we understand that. Here's how we make sure each of our CAREGivers exemplifies our values of compassion, trust and expertise.

Drug Screening

Home Instead Senior Care® requires drug screening of all CAREGivers. We will not send anyone into your home that we wouldn't invite into our own. It's that simple.

Bonded and Insured

We conduct thorough background checks on all prospective CAREGivers. Each person who enters your home is bonded to protect you against loss. And we insure all of our CAREGivers to protect against loss, too. We believe in taking care of the people who take care of your family.

Compatibility Matching

When it comes to senior caregiver services, we understand the importance of the compatibility match for both the client and the CAREGiver. If your mom is talkative and likes to work out in the yard, then we are going to find a CAREGiver for her who is outgoing and enjoys being outside. If your dad prefers to play chess and sit in his easy chair, we’ll find someone for him, too!

Worried that no one will get along with your mom or dad? As much as you love them, you may find them sometimes difficult to get along with. But remember, family dynamics are pretty powerful and can lead to tensions that may not be an issue with a new friend. It may not be as hard as you think to find a patient and respectful caregiver who would truly enjoy the company of your aging parents and be enjoyed by them.

Wondering if the CAREGiver will put up with mom’s dog? Dad’s pipes? Grandma’s addiction to Backgammon? Uncle Roy’s ornery side? If your mom and fluffy are the best of friends, we would only send a CAREGivers who understands. We also match clients and CAREGivers by interests, hobbies, activity levels and personality.

What if it doesn’t work out? We want this match to work out well for everyone. So, if your mom or dad is not comfortable with a CAREGiver for ANY reason, just let us know! No hard feelings. Likewise, if a CAREGiver feels that the client might fare better with someone else, we’ll let you know.

Ongoing, World-Class Training

Each of our CAREGivers completes a comprehensive, multi-phased training program before they ever meet or serve a client. They also participate in periodic ongoing training programs as we develop them. Your CAREGiver also may opt to take specialized training modules for advanced levels of caregiving, such as Alzheimer's care.

CAREGivers as Partners in your Family’s Care Plan

“From the day Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, the rest of us in the family had to start learning. How to keep him safe, how to communicate with him in a way that didn’t lead to frustration, how to remember who Dad was underneath his disease. At times it was very stressful, and we couldn’t have managed any of it without Shirley, his wonderful CAREGiverSM. She not only took great care of him when we couldn’t be there, but helped us make the most of our time with Dad when we were. To us, she’s no longer just hired help; she’s one of the family.”

Relationships like these are not just lucky matches but an intentional part of the care plan for those with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. The connection Home Instead CAREGivers make with families is just as important as the bond that is forged with seniors. CAREGivers and the Home Instead team engage family members, near and far, by acting as partners in caring for their loved one with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

Our Home Instead Senior Care® office also understands the importance of providing consistent, quality care to older adults throughout the world. The network, through its local offices around the world, not only provides ongoing training to CAREGivers, but to families as well. This strengthens the partnership that is so valuable in creating the best experience possible for older adults.

Commitment to Diversity

We like the diversity of our caregiving team to match the diversity of the population we serve. For this reason, we encourage retirees, students and veterans to join us in serving your family. We will always endeavor to match you with the CAREGiver who best meets your needs.
