Webinar on Senior Scams is April 6

scam.jpgThe Senate Special Committee on Aging revealed that it received more than 1100 calls on its special senior fraud hotline in 2015 – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as many home caregivers already know. The estimated financial loss related to senior financial scams is reported to be $2.9 billion every year. Clearly, this is a major problem and one that concerns many home caregivers, as well as the individuals they look after.

Senior scams come in many forms, including identity theft, IRS impersonation calls, home improvement scams, sweepstakes or lottery scams, etc. It behooves home caregivers to be aware of the scope of the senior scam “business” and to know how to deal with any such challenges that may arise. Fortunately, an April 6 webinar can help provide valuable information in this area.

The Webinar

“Understanding the Scams Seniors Face” is the latest in the ongoing series of Family Caregiver Support webinars. It is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time (12:00 noon Central, 1:00 p.m. Eastern) on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

Home caregivers who attend this online webinar can leave the session being able to:

  • List five ways they can help prevent or report suspected scams against a senior
  • Identify eight signs that a senior may have been victimized by a scam
  • Define the eight most common scams targeting seniors in the United States

The Speaker

Lakelyn Hogan is currently working toward a Master of Arts in Social Gerontology. Lakelyn’s passion for helping others has led to her work with aging adults and their families as they navigate the senior care continuum.
