October 7 Webinar: Caring for Someone with Alzheimer's

alzheimers-300x199.jpgMaria Shriver has stated that "no matter who you are, what you've accomplished, what your financial situation is – when you're dealing with a parent with Alzheimer's, you yourself feel helpless… As the disease unfolds, you don't know what to expect." Taking care of dementia patients presents many challenges – but meeting those challenges requires paying special attention to the patient.

A helpful webinar

To aid the families and caregivers of Alzheimer's patients, the monthly Family Caregiver Support webinar series is focusing on "Caring for Someone with Alzheimer's"  this September. This latest in the ongoing Home Instead Senior Care series will be held on Wednesday, October 7th, at 10:00 am Pacific time (12:00 noon Central, 1:00 pm Eastern).

Many discussions of dementia care focus on the disease itself; however, this webinar will focus on the dignity of individuals with dementia and will highlight care strategies that can help these individuals live more fulfilling lives. This unique approach to person-centered care helps caregivers cope with the difficulties of caregiving, manage behaviors, and positively engage clients or loved ones.

Those who participate in the October 7th webinar will learn how to:

understand caregiving strategies that aim to maintain the quality of life for dementia patients.
describe three or more ways to keep individuals with dementia engaged and to manage difficult behaviors that often arise.
employ strategies that benefit the caregiver as well.

The speaker

Molly Carpenter, an author, speaker, trainer, and family caregiver who brings years of personal and professional elder care experience and training to the subject, will lead the “Home Safety for Seniors” webinar. Ms. Carpenter holds a bachelor of science degree in family science with a gerontology specialization and a master’s degree in education with a gerontology specialization.
