9 Steps to Take if You Test Positive for COVID-19

9 steps to follow if you are sick with covid 19If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 or are developing symptoms for the virus, do not panic!  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outlines specific steps you need to take if you are sick with COVID-19 or think you have it or may have been exposed to it.

  1. STAY HOME! People who are exhibiting mild symptoms of COVID-19 are generally able to recover at home. Do not leave, except to get medical care.
  2. SELF-ISOLATE and separate yourself from other people in your home. Use a separate bathroom as well if possible.
  3. CALL AHEAD before visiting your doctor. Inform your doctor or emergency department that you may have COVID-19 so that can protect themselves and other patients.
  4. WEAR A FACEMASK if you are sick.
  5. COVER YOU COUGHS AND SNEEZES with a tissue and dispose of it in a lined trash can.
  6. WASH YOUR HANDS often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  7. AVOID SHARING personal items such as dishes, drinking glasses, eating utensils, towels or bedding.
  8. CLEAN ALL “HIGH-TOUCH” SURFACES in your isolation area every day, such as doorknobs, tabletops, light switches, phones, remote control. Let someone else clean and disinfect other high-touch areas in the home.
  9. MONITOR YOUR SYMPTOMS. Seek medical attention, but call first, if your symptoms worsen, for example, if you have difficulty breathing

Visit the CDC website for more precautions to take if you believe you may be sick with COVID-19.
