  3. Linda Feels Valued While Serving Seniors

Linda believes her job as an award-winning CAREGiver for Home Instead Senior Care® of Metairie is a godsend. She knows about such things because her life was radically changed when she encountered Christ in a life-changing way 15 years ago. The Bible college and seminary graduate now is the church leader for Restoring Hope Church of the Nazarene and founding pastor of Pray New Orleans, an interdenominational prayer effort in the city.

"Nine-to-five jobs don't work out well if you are in the kind of ministry I'm in. There is a lot more to it than showing up on Sundays. Home Instead's flexibility allows me to do the ministry. This situation works out really well," said the CAREGiver of the Month, who joined owner Lisa Rabito's Home Instead franchise on July 22, 2014.

When a 92-year-old World War II riverboat pilot wanted to dance as he and his 90-year-old wife listened to big band music, Linda walked over and gave the client her hand, thinking he would "dance" while sitting in his chair since standing was so difficult for him. To Linda's surprise, he stood and began to twirl Linda this way and that. She very gently let him, taking care to make sure he kept his balance. The next song was a slow dance, and they danced for that song as well.  Linda had never been able to dance with her own father.

One of the Ten Commandments says to honor your father and mother. "To honor" means to give value. Linda said she is able to fulfill the commandment through the client couple in a way she was not able to do so with her own parents. Additionally, this couple's entire family has embraced Linda as one of the family. By doing so, the family unknowingly allowed her to experience family in a way she has never been able to. "God has used this family to minister to my own heart," Linda said, "and they have no idea how they have blessed me." After a recent family gathering, Linda realized she was the one who had been given value. "While I started working with this couple as my job with Home Instead, I no longer do what I do because it is my job. I do what I do because I love them," Linda said.
