The two-hour session will offer a basic understanding of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias as well as practical tips and training on:
Finding activities to keep loved ones engaged
Addressing loved ones' behavioral symptoms
This class will empower you with techniques including prompting and re-directing methods to meet the daily needs of an individual with dementia. Coping strategies can improve quality of life for both caregivers and care recipients. Do these statements have a familiar ring? “Why can't I remember how to do this?” “I can still drive - I just got lost.” “I don’t need a bath!”
Participants had this to say about their experiences . . .
“I was very impressed with the information you shared with me about dementia. Your experience in dealing with the issues that lay ahead for us was reassuring, and your responses to my many questions went above and beyond. Thank you for the information, time and patience.” Cate M.D.
“It was good to learn to try and help my mom be as independent as possible. Let her help me prepare food, even if it is just stirring while she is sitting at the table. If she wants to re-arrange the pantry all day long – let her do it. If the pantry is messed up, just let it be.” Patricia M.
“It was great to learn all the techniques for behaviors like wandering and not wanting to wear different clothes. Also, it was nice to get insight as to what other caregivers are going through and how they deal with things. You realize you are not alone”. Mandy
“Thank you for staying in touch and giving me helpful tips when I called with behavior problems my Mom is having. You’re caring and support have been invaluable.” Cheryl R.
“The Alzheimer’s class was great. I especially appreciate you helping me over the phone with some of the issues my brothers and I have had to deal with my Mom. You have been most helpful.” C. J.
