Though we encourage patients to enter a hospice program as early as possible after their terminal diagnosis, we’re also eager to help those who are seriously ill, but not yet ready for hospice services.

Through SinceraTM Supportive Care and Symptom Relief, the team of palliative care experts visits patients in their own homes, assess their pain and symptom management needs, and then make recommendations to patients’ own physicians. The result, 99% of the time, is improved quality of life!

Very beneficial for anyone who has pain or other distressing symptoms due to a long-term chronic disease or the side effects of treatment, the Sincera team helps patients with cancer, advanced heart, lung or kidney disease, late-stage neurological disorders, dementia or debility due to old age. In addition to providing specialized pain management, they are also experts at controlling shortness of breath, nausea, fatigue, sleep loss, constipation, anxiety or depression—the predominant concerns of many seriously ill people.

Makes a Huge Difference

Scott Miller, 61, of Pemberville has been struggling with the side effects of treatment for lung cancer. With the help of his sister, he endured surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. “It was the worst thing I have ever been through,” shares Scott, “And, I have been through a lot, including a debilitating car accident back in 1986.”

Scott also started to experience depression during his treatment. That is when his sister suggested he could benefit from the services of Sincera. After receiving a referral from his physician, one of the Sincera advanced practice nurses visited Scott in his home. “It meant a lot me that Karen came to my house,” shares Scott. “I had been to so many appointments and they take a lot out of me.

“Karen spent time talking to me, reviewing my medication and discussing my goals,” explains Scott. “She then made some recommendations to my doctor, who adjusted my medications. My pain and other symptoms were lessened. I still have pain, but it is much better than it was.”

The Sincera team continues to follow Scott’s condition and consults with his physician to adjust medications as needed. “The change to my attitude has been huge,” says Scott.

Sincera is a consultation service only; it does not provide the comprehensive care and services that the hospice program does. But, it does offer relief, support and advice that can greatly improve a patient’s wellbeing. Equally important, it often helps patients better understand their illness and establish goals of care.

Sincera consultations are covered by Medicare Part B and most other insurance plans. No one is turned away due to inability to pay. For more information about Sincera, or for help in seeking a referral from your physician, call 419-931-3440 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Or, visit sinceracare.org.
