 Home Instead Caregiver

A tradition of great caregiving means that we take care of our own as well as we take care you and your family.

We reward our local CAREGivers with CAREGiver of the Month and CAREGiver of the Year awards to show our appreciation for all they do. Home Instead, Inc. also recognizes regional CAREGivers of the Year and one special CAREGiver who shows exceptional dedication is the recipient of the national award — The Mary Steibel CAREGiverSM of the Year Award.

This program inspires CAREGivers to strive for excellence. It creates a sense of pride and rewards their hard work, compassionate care and service to others.

We are thrilled to introduce our outstanding 2014 CAREGiver of the Year - Linda G.

Home Instead Senior Care of Gorham, Maine has chosen Linda G. as our CAREGiver of the Year and our nominee for the national award. Linda is a quiet, efficient CAREGiver who exemplifies all the qualities Home Instead Senior Care looks for. She is an organizer who kept her primary client and her home running smoothly. She Builds Trust, Shares Her Heart, and Takes the Lead daily with a client who, without her, could have been vulnerable and lacking in the care she needed. Linda’s particular client had many day to day living challenges that needed top notch management. This 94 year old woman was widowed with no children. She was from a prominent family in her home town where she lived alone in the large home she grew up in. It’s a home filled with family heirlooms and is surrounded by grounds maintained by help she had employed for many years. She is known as the town’s historian and has spent years organizing hundreds of volumes she's put together documenting the town’s people and events.

Yes, there are CAREGivers who do heroic and extraordinary feats, but the back bone of Home Instead Senior Care is the CARGiver who is steadfast, respectful, gracious, calm, dependable, and trustworthy. Linda is that CAREGiver. She can keep everything on an even keel no matter what is really going on. She is proactive in her day to day interactions, and treats her clients with the utmost respect, even in very challenging situations.

We thank Linda for her consistency, dedication and professionalism with every encounter, both with clients and office staff. She is always a valuable advocate for her clients.

Congratulations Linda! We are very proud of you!

November 2014 - Betsy A.

November 2014 - Betsy A.

Betsy has been with Home Instead since April of 2008. She states that she chose to work for Home Instead because she had heard great things about the company—and she states she found them to be true! Betsy is a single mother of an adopted daughter with Down Syndrome. She has four sisters in the West and Midwest, but she has been in Maine almost 30 years. Her interests are theater, reading, word games, and cooking. All are interests she uses in her caregiving. Betsy diligently raises money for The Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Each year she raises over $1,000 for this great cause. She also makes sure she is there on “walk” day! At one time she worked three jobs. Now her long-range goal is to retire, but not anytime soon, we hope!

October 2014 - Mike T.

October 2014 - Mike T.
Congratulations to our CAREGiver of the month for October 2014, Mike T.!

Mike came to Home Instead Gorham in July of 2013. He lives in Portland with his wife, Rebecca. Mike is the oldest of six children and the first to be born in this country after his parents came from Italy. He is a man of many talents: piloting large vessels, photography, riding his bike - both motorized and pedal - and finding out of the way, interesting places to eat. He loves family gatherings, wandering in museums and Christmas celebrations. Mike is dedicated to focusing on opportunities that provide his clients with successes. One client could barely walk 30 feet when they started their daily walks, and now they walk a mile easily! Thank you, Mike, for your perseverance and dedication to your clients.

September 2014 - Yufei Tang

September 2014 - Yufei Tang
Congratulations to our CAREGiver of the Month for September 2014, Yufei Tang!

Yufei came to our Home Instead team in July 2013. She was born in China. Previously she was working with infants and children, but always wanted to work with seniors. Once her English improved, she applied to work here at Home Instead with the encouragement of her English tutor. Yufei has a 14-year-old daughter and a new 17-year-old step-daughter. She and her new husband married within the past month. She brought a bag of candy to the office and called it "happy candy". She told us it is a Chinese custom to bring candy to friends after being married. We at the office certainly did not object! Yufei likes vegetarian food, meditation and Tai Chi. She says that her clients are like family to her and she is happy to assist them in any way possible. Her long-term goal is to become more proficient in English to better communicate with her clients. Yufei's quiet, calm and efficient manner makes her clients feel confident and well cared for. Thank you Yufei for your natural caring abilities. We hope to have you as a CAREGiver for many more years!

August 2014-Tammy Burrell

August 2014-Tammy Burrell
Congratulations CAREGiver for the month of August: Tammy Burrell!

Tammy has worked for Home Instead since May of 2013. She is widowed with a daughter and son. She has eleven grandchildren and states "there is plenty of love to go around!" Her hobbies include knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. Nature and long walks are part of her everyday life. She clearly states that she loves "get aways" as well.

One of her clients told her that she was a real treasure. Tammy felt good about that and feels good about helping our clients. Tammy really rolls with the situation at hand. At one new client introduction we walked into a really messy and potentially dangerous situation. Tammy rolled up her sleeves, put on gloves and went to work! Her CNA training has been very helpful! Tammy, we thank you for your careful and thoughtful Caregiving practices and are happy to have you aboard!

May 2014 - Renee Redlon

May 2014 - Renee Redlon
Renee lives in Gray. She has four boys and taking into account her pets, she can't remember a time when she was not the only female in the house. She is part of a large family and considers the majority of her relatives not just family, but also as friends. She likes different types of music from the Big Band Era to today's music. She enjoys reading, any type of puzzle, and getting together with family and friends.

Her mother mentioned working for Home Instead when she was looking for something else to do to get away from her regular job.

"It was a wonderful suggestion! I enjoy interacting with elderly people. It brings back memories of growing up in a small village where everyone knew everybody and I regularly visited with my parents' and grandparents' friends and neighbors," she said. "From the first time I met with people in the office until now, working with and meeting people through Home Instead has been very rewarding. I have made some wonderful friends with CAREGivers as well as with clients and their families. I am looking forward to being part of this great team of people for years to come."

We certainly are glad she took her mother's suggestion! Thank you Renee for your calm, self-assured and reassuring manner. You show great respect in all your interactions.
