  3. Questions to Ask Home Care Providers

Home Instead Senior Care of Rancho Cucamonga believes families should have the necessary knowledge to choose the best home care company for them. We understand that starting the process of looking for home care can be daunting, so we've created a number of questions to help you compare home care companies! (Home Instead's own answers are below each question in purple.)

  1. Is the company a CA Licensed Home Care Organization (HCO)?  What is their HCO License #?

California law established the Home Care Services Consumer Protection Act which, as of January 2016, requires Home Care Organizations to be licensed and creates a public online registry for Home Care Aides who have been background checked. Our license number is HCO #364700002. All agencies must have a license to operate in California.

  2. How do you check-out the background of your employees?

All our Caregivers are fingerprinted through the state of California and go through an FBI and Department of Justice background check. We will not send anyone into your home that we wouldn't invite into our own. It's that simple.

  3. Are your employees bonded and/or insured?

Yes! We carry multiple policies on our CAREGivers. Each person who enters your home is bonded to protect you against loss. And we insure all of our CAREGivers to protect against loss, too. We believe in taking care of the people who take care of your family.

  4. Do you provide your employees with workers' compensation coverage, in the event they are hurt on the job?

  5. Do you withhold social security, federal, state and local taxes, or am I responsible for those?

We withhold all taxes because our CAREgivers are our employees.

  6. How do you train your employees?

All our CAREGivers come to us with at least some experience and receives comprehensive, multi-phased training program before they ever meet or serve a client. We also provide mandatory on-going and yearly training.

  7. Do I need to sign a contract?

No contract, but we do require a service agreement.

  8. Do I get to help choose the caregiver or meet them in advance?

During your Care Consultation, we will gather information from you regarding the kind of CAREGiver you would prefer. That information is brought back to our staffing team who will match you with the best possible CAREGiver to suit your specific needs and preferences. We will also introduce your CAREGiver(s) to you before your first shift.

  9. Do you schedule the same caregiver for each visit?

We do our very best to keep you with the same CAREGiver. Generally, at the beginning of service we will introduce 2 CAREGivers in the event that your primary CAREGiver is sick, or if you need care 7 days a week.

  10. Can I change a caregiver?

  11. What happens if the caregiver is sick?

We will never let you go without care, we have a team of CAREGivers that readily fill-in when the Client’s regular CAREGiver needs to request a day off or be out sick. We will always offer a CAREGiver to fill-in.

  12. Can a supervisor be reached 24/7?

Yes! A Staffing Supervisor is available 24 hours per day/ 7 days per week.

  13. Can I adjust a schedule once it's started?

Yes! We will do our best to accommodate all your requests.

  14. What type of records do you maintain in the home to keep us informed?

Each client has a binder in the home which consists of their Care Plan, emergency contacts and Care Logs where the CAREGiver will take daily notes and log all their tasks.

  15. How often do you bill for services?

We bill twice a month for services provided.
Services rendered from the 1st-15th will be invoiced on the 16th with payment due on the 25th. Service rendered from 16th-end of month will be invoiced on the 1st with payment due on the 10th.

  16. If I have a complaint, or problem who do I talk to?

Your first point of contact will be your Staffing Manager. You can also voice any concerns to our Quality Assurance Representative who conducts weekly and monthly quality assurance phone calls and also home visits with the CAREGiver, Client, and client’s family or any other member of our office staff at any time.

  17. Can you provide 24 hour 7 days a week care?

  18. Are your services available for the elderly in nursing homes or living facilities?

  19. Are you a local or national company?

Home Instead Senior Care is a worldwide company; however, each franchise office is individually owned and operated.
