VANCOUVER PROGRAM BRIGHTENS THE HOLIDAYS FOR LOCAL SENIORS

Senior_Present6.jpgNovember 20, 2015 – Vancouver, BC – This holiday season, many Vancouver-area seniors who are alone and living in care facilities will receive some holiday cheer thanks to the 6th Annual Be a Santa to a Senior® program.  Sponsored by the local Home Instead Senior Care® office, the program brings together area nonprofits, retailers, volunteers and members of the community to provide gifts and companionship for lonely and isolated seniors.

“Many of our community’s seniors do not have the chance to celebrate the holidays surrounded by loved ones, and we know there are many people in the community who want to reach out,” says Janet Hassell, co-owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office in West Vancouver. “Many seniors living in care homes have very few visitors. Our Santa initiative brings holiday cheer to those who need it most.”

Vancouver’s Be a Santa to a Senior Program is sponsored by generous partners Whole Foods and RBC, and businesses throughout Metro Vancouver (see list below) who will have trees on display.

Starting November 20, participating businesses will display Be a Santa to a Senior ornaments with seniors’ first names and their gift requests.  Holiday shoppers can pick ornaments from the business, buy the items listed and return them unwrapped (and with the ornament attached) to one of the following locations:

•    Hollyburn Country Club
950 Cross Creek Road
West Vancouver, BC V7S 2S5

•    The Law Society of B.C. (Front Door)
845 Cambie Street
Vancouver, BC V6B 4Z9

•    Dream Office Real Estate Investment Trust (Lobby)
13401 – 108th Avenue, Suite 1290
Surrey, BC V3T 5T3

•    Home Instead Senior Care Office
2232 Marine Dr #301
West Vancouver, BC V7V 1L2

On December 18, program partners and volunteers will wrap and distribute the gifts to local senior, who might otherwise spend the holiday alone.  Hundreds of volunteers are required to make the project run.  Many elves make light work!
