OTTAWA, ONT – May 9, 2018 – Ottawa-based
caregiver Judy Daniels is named the 2018 Canadian CAREGiver of the
year. As a dedicated CAREGiver for more than five years, Judy spends
countless hours reading, talking to and caring for Home Instead clients,
Ottawa's Home Instead Senior Care is proud to recognize Daniels for
outstanding care and compassion towards her clients. The
Mary Steibel CAREGiver℠ of the Year Award is given to a special
CAREGiver every year who shows exceptional dedication and excellence in
their work. Home Instead Senior Care Inc. recognizes regional CAREGivers
of the Year and one of the eight regional CAREGivers receives the Mary
"Judy brings joy and light to our clients every
day, which is why we put her name forward for the award. We're honoured
to have such an outstanding and compassionate caregiver on our team,"
said Lesley Sullivan, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care®
office serving Ottawa. "Judy makes the Ottawa community and our company
proud every day, but we're especially proud of her today."
are 2,300 CAREGivers just like Daniels across Canada, providing an
essential service to our senior loved ones. The CAREGiver Award is given
to one of eight nominees from across North America. Out of the 30
nominated from Canada, Daniels was the only one selected for
consideration of the overall award.
"I'm blown away. There are
times I get to work with other ladies, and a lot of them are just
phenomenal. I still can't believe it," said Daniels. "I don't think of
myself as anything particularly special to warrant that. I just try to
do my best because the clients are like family to me. It's truly an
honour to be considered for this award."
In Daniels' home, there
is a five-volume book set that was given to her by the family of a
former client after he passed away. She was his CAREGiver for three
years. Daniels regularly read to the retired Canadian general because
his eyesight had declined. She remembers having a lot of interesting
discussions about life and politics with him.
