Welcome to Home Instead Senior Care. We are Nova Scotia’s trusted source of companionship and non-medical home care for older adults.  We have a team of trained, dependable and compassionate CAREGivers who can assist with light housekeeping, companionship and personal care.

We place a high priority on creating a compatible match between CAREGivers and clients. The bond that develops is one that fosters independence, and promotes well-being.

Compassionate staff members are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to quickly answer your questions and accommodate your needs. We offer a free, no obligation in-home consultation with you and your loved ones. Our team will work with you to determine the services that best fit your needs.

Jeanie Burke - ​President​

Jeanie Burke - ​President​

In June 2003, during the early weeks of owning Home Instead Senior Care, Jeanie Burke's franchise in Halifax was a one-woman operation.

 
She was busy getting the word out, booking clients and recruiting caregivers. By September, the phone was ringing off the hook - a vicious cycle had formed with more clients than caregivers so, like any good entrepreneur, she did whatever it took to get things done.
 
Since then, she has gone from a one-woman show to having over 160 people on staff. She leads her team in maintaining a position of client-focus. After all, the aim of Home Instead Senior Care is about giving people peace of mind; about taking care of a family's most beloved members.

Jeanie has so many wonderful memories from her time with Home Instead Senior Care and is looking forward to many more. This is a business she can feel good about at the end of the day. She is providing for her family while helping others. With the help of Jeanie and her team, clients can hang on to a normal life. She's never heard anyone say, 'I'm looking forward to going to a nursing home when I get older.' Everybody wants to stay at home and when all is said and done, she helps make that happen.​​


Nicole McKenna - Human Resources Coordinator

Nicole McKenna - Human Resources Coordinator

As Human Resources Coordinator, Nicole is responsible for recruiting, hiring and onboarding new CAREGivers.  She actively works with community partners to seek out potential CAREGivers who have the skills and compassion to be a compatible match with our clients.  Nicole is also involved in arranging and providing continuous training to current CAREGivers, while providing HR support an an ongoing basis. 

Nicole has a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology from Saint Mary's University. Having felt the effects of aging grandparents firsthand, Nicole has witnessed the positive impact caregivers can have on the family unit. Nicole and her family are grateful for the assistance they received during the difficult times and she is honored to work within a company who strives to provide the same assistance to other families.​​


Natalie Smith - ​Communications Manager

Natalie Smith - ​Communications Manager

Natalie is responsible for the implementation of internal and external communication initiatives to Home Instead Senior Care's stakeholders.  She also works closely with the client services team, helping to ensure our clients receive the best care possible.

Natalie has a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University with a focus in Marketing.  She has seen how the stress of caregiving for family members has affected her mother and she has a personal interest in being able to help primary family caregivers have the rest and relief they need to keep caring for their loved ones.​​


Brittany Keough - Staffing Coordinator

Brittany Keough - Staffing Coordinator

As an Staffing Coordinator, Brittany performs organizational and office support activities so that daily processes are running smoothly. She is also a part of the Client Services team where she strives to ensure clients are matched with a CAREGiver best suited for their needs.

Brittany has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology, along with a certificate in Human Resource Management from Saint Mary's University. Brittany recognizes the importance of senior care through personal involvement with helping her mother and father care for her grandparents. Through the experience of her grandfather's illness with Alzheimer's disease, she recognizes the need for professional care and assistance. She is proud to be a part of the Home Instead team knowing that they bring peace of mind to both clients and their families.  


Jim Murwin - Accounting Manager

Jim Murwin - Accounting Manager

Jim joins Home Instead Senior Care as Accounting Manager with the view that his position will be a challenging new chapter on is career path. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mount Saint Vincent University, with a Gold “V” award recognizing his commitment and contribution to the University community. He brings to this position extensive accounting experience gained, over the years, from working in the automotive, construction, hospitality and commercial/residential property management industries. 


His main ambitions are to provide timely and accurate information to staff and clients and work within the administrative team to help achieve continued growth and profitability for Home Instead. He brings warm energy to his role as he actively contributes to Home Instead Senior Care’s main goal of assisting older adults to live independently in their own homes. 


Arlene Vogler, RN - Client Care Coordinator

Arlene works with clients and their families, ensuring they have the proper resources and supports to continue living independently at home.​

Arlene joins the client services team with 15 years health care experience.  As a Registered Nurse, Arlene has worked with older adults throughout her nursing career, both in hospital as we llas with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON.  Seeing clients remain safe in their homes has always brought a feeling of pride and satisfaction.


Christine Halladay - Operations Manager

Christine Halladay - Operations Manager

As Operations Manager, Christine is responsible for overseeing the day to day business and ensuring Home Instead Senior Care provides a smooth and efficient service that meets the expectations and needs of clients and caregivers.  Having worked for a salon group as Education Manager and prior to that Director of Operations for a private career college, Christine brings years of experience to our team.

Christine recognizes the importance and value of a company like Home Instead Senior Care and is excited to apply her skills and experience somewhere new and exciting.


Renee Field - Relationship Manager

Renee Field - Relationship Manager

​Renee believes strongly in relationship building and as the new Relationship Manager she's committed to providing clients with the best care.


Renee has a Bachelor of Journalism from Ryerson University and a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University and has worked for over 15 years with the public, and in the community as an active volunteer.  With a family member suffering from dementia she understands the value and integrity of having professional help to care for a loved one. She thrives at providing assistance to those in need.


Kandace Hewlett - Office Coordinator

Kandace Hewlett - Office Coordinator

​Kandace joins our team after completing a work placement for her Medical Administrative program at Eastern College.  As Office Coordinator, Kandace provides office support to ensure daily processes are running smoothly.  She supports recruitment efforts of interviews and by completing reference checks.  Kandace also assists the client services team in identifying compatible personalities when matching CAREGivers with clients.
