In January 2009, Home Instead Senior Care of the Northern Shenandoah Valley established an exclusive CAREGiver recognition program, the Hand and Heart Award.  The program was announced via letter to clients, CAREGivers, and referral providers.  Below is the letter sent out to clients.

January 22, 2009
Dear Valued Client:

At Home Instead Senior Care of the Northern Shenandoah Valley, we are pleased to announce the Hand and Heart Award, a new program that will recognize exceptional CAREGiver service to our clients during 2009.  We are advising you about this special award in the event you wish to nominate a deserving Home Instead CAREGiver.

We formally recognize CAREGiver achievements as CAREGivers have completed HISC training modules and as they have reached milestones in total hours worked with the company.  We also recognize outstanding service with our CAREGiver of the Month and CAREGiver of the Year program.  While these types of recognition are important and will continue to have a place in our company, we know that CAREGivers often perform acts of exceptional care and compassion for our clients that may go unnoticed or are acknowledged only informally with a simple expression of gratitude.

Our new Hand and Heart Award will formally recognize CAREGiver acts of exceptional care and compassion for our clients.  The Hand and Heart Award is a small pewter pin shaped like a hand that includes a heart shape hollowed out in the palm.  The award symbolizes the kind of care we seek to provide our clients - we serve not just with our hands but also with our hearts, as manifested by the remarkable gestures of compassionate attention from our CAREGivers.

CAREGivers who have performed exceptional acts of compassionate service to our clients may be nominated for the Hand and Heart Award.  Nominations are welcome from clients or their families, peer CAREGivers, referral providers, or HISC office staff.  Nominations may be submitted to our office either in writing or by phone.  There is no limit on the number of Hand and Heart Awards a CAREGiver can receive.  CAREGivers may not nominate themselves for the award.

We invite you to nominate any deserving CAREGiver(s) for the Hand and Heart Award during the upcoming year.  Nominations from clients and their families will be particularly meaningful to our CAREGivers.  We look forward to the opportunity to formally recognize CAREGivers who are performing exceptional acts of compassionate service to our clients.

Finally, please allow me to take a moment to thank you for allowing us to assist you.  Our entire team at Home Instead Senior Care is committed to providing exceptional personalized service to our clients, and we truly appreciate the trust you place in us.

Sincerely,

Aaron Blight
