At Home Instead Senior Care, we firmly believe that it's no coincidence that National Family Caregiver's Month happens to fall in the same month we take time to count our blessings. After all, is there any greater blessing in life than being safe in the knowledge that someone is looking out for us and the people we love?

According to the Presidential Proclamation for National Family Caregiver's Month 2015, this is a time to "rededicate ourselves to making sure our selfless caregivers have the support they need to maintain their own well-being and that of those they love." How fitting, then, that the theme for this year's observance is Respite: Care for Caregivers.

For many family caregivers, being a superhero is all part of the job description. Often, they take on so much, and are relied upon so heavily, that it never occurs to them to take time to recharge their batteries.

That's why it's so important to have this reminder – particularly as we enter the season of hustle and bustle, of family celebrations, of increased risk of hospitalization, of moments of great activity being followed by the doldrums of winter, in short, of the holidays and all the wonderful (and sometimes stressful) chaos that come with them – that family caregivers need to be able to take care of themselves so that they can better care for others.

At Home Instead Senior Care serving central Oregon, we offer respite care to fit your situation: whether you need it on a regularly scheduled basis, or if you just need someone to pinch hit for a special events, such as to travel out of town for the holidays.
