flu season and, we’ve got to say, it’s been a particularly brutal one.
For people caring for senior loved ones, getting sick can feel like a worst possible case scenario.
of all, there’s the fact that it’s difficult to care for another person
when you really just want to curl up in a ball and have someone take
care of you.
But also, and maybe even more importantly, there is
the knowledge that you may be putting your senior at risk for catching
what you have.
While it’s tempting to take some strong meds and

Here are some other flu tips:
Medicare pays for one flu vaccine per flu season. So if you haven’t
been vaccinated yet, let this be your shot in the arm to protect against
what officials are predicting will be one of the longest, harshest flu
outbreaks in the past decade.
• Over-the-counter medications will
help reduce flu symptoms, but they won’t make you less contagious. Since
seniors are at high risk for flu-related complications, they should
contact their health care provider immediately if they begin to show
symptoms of flu. A health care provider may prescribe antiviral
medications (like Tamiflu) to help make symptoms less severe and speed
• Droplets from a sneeze or a cough can travel up to six
feet. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and dispose of the tissue
immediately. If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your
sleeve. It may sound unappealing, but it’s better than spreading or
catching the flu.
