  3. Make a Local Senior’s Holiday Brighter
For the past several years, our office has proudly participated in the Be a Santa to a Senior program, which relies on the generosity of the community to provide gifts to lonely and isolated seniors in Central Oregon. This program is near and dear to our hearts, and we want to take a few moments to emphasize the importance of giving this holiday season. Many people are impacted by the bumpy economy, but for seniors – who typically live on a fixed income – this is especially true. We work with several local agencies to gather gift requests from seniors who are in need of the very basics…items such as slippers, blankets, quarters for laundry or groceries. This year we partnered with a variety of local agencies to help meet the needs of our area seniors, including Bendbroadband/Zolo Media, COCC Criminal Justice Club, Partners in Care, St. Charles Home Health Services, and St. Charles Lifeline. It’s supported by the generosity of our local retail and community partners. The success of our program is based on that community involvement. This year, Seven Peaks Middle School in Bend, and Obsidian Middle School in Redmond will be making Christmas cards to go in each gift bag. Central Oregon Community College Criminal Justice Department will be donating quarters for needy seniors to do laundry. We urge you become involved and to provide a gift to a local senior in need; trees with ornaments bearing gift requests can be found at the following locations:
