Home Instead Caregiver

A tradition of great caregiving means that we take care of our own as well as we take care you and your family.

Home Instead recognizes outstanding CAREGivers who demonstrate the Attributes of Love (v)This program inspires CAREGivers to strive for excellence, and it rewards CAREGivers for their hard work, compassionate care and dedicated service to others.

On an annual basis, we select a CAREGiver of the Year and celebrate him/her at a special reception at our office. Our CAREGiver of the Year is also presented to our corporate headquarters in Omaha, Neb., as a nominee for the national award — The Mary Steibel CAREGiverSM of the Year Award.

Appleton CAREGiver of the Month

October | Irene

Irene has been blessing clients with her wonderful care since 2012. Reliable, hardworking and cheerful (she arrives with a smile!), Irene has been known to make life easier for clients; in fact, the Appleton office has, on many occasions, received reports from clients about how much she was able to accomplish on her shift. The office has also received countless client phone calls to commend Irene on her cooking skills.

Irene surely impacts the lives of her clients in so many positive ways. In addition to her regular clients, she demonstrates a teamplayer mindset by frequently assisting when other client needs arise. She will fill in for additional shifts when she’s available and, at times, sacrifices her own personal time to accommodate the clients. Regardless of the client, Irene approaches him or her with family-like love and care.

September | Jean

When Jean began a new career with us one year ago, she possessed an unquenchable thirst to learn our industry, caregiving best practices and what it takes to be a great CAREGiver, despite having never been a caregiver.

The Appleton team has watched Jean grow in this new role and wholeheartedly agrees that she has heart: She cares from the bottom of her heart, and she puts heart into everything she does. In addition, Jean applies a humble, compassionate, professional approach to caregiving; in fact, when a client struggled with anxiety, Jean, with her gentle way, was able to provide calmness. It’s hard to explain or pinpoint exactly what it is — what her secret ingredient is — that makes her so effective in situations like this, but she’s amazing. She definitely has a special Jean touch.

August | Jennifer

What sets her apart: Family members are often challenged with taking care of aging parents when they can’t be present. Jennifer’s client has a daughter who lives states away, and she has let us know how much she appreciates the commitment, kindness and selflessness that Jennifer has shown to her parents. Knowing that Jennifer is present in the family’s home on a weekly basis, and that she communicates updates and concerns, has given the daughter a sense of peace — her parents are in great hands!

Client testimonial: “Things haven’t always been easy, and my father can be a challenge, but Jennifer has never given up on them."

July | Cori

What makes her a great CAREGiver: Cori was nominated due to her commitment to actively showing Love (v) to CAREGivers and clients alike.

What sets her apart: Cori goes the extra mile; in fact, she has been increasing her responsibilities by conducting quality assurance visits while CAREGivers are with their clients. CAREGivers truly appreciate Cori in this new role, as it gives them extra support and tools to help them succeed in their careers. Whether Cori is collaborating with fellow CAREGivers, serving clients during routine shifts or assisting in the office, she embodies cheerfulness, professionalism and kindness. In fact, her clients are always quick to request her return; her gentle, compassionate nature makes them feel “at home.”

June | Terry

What makes him a great CAREGiver: Naturally compassionate, Terry always assumes responsibility and accepts feedback from both clients and office staff. Also extremely generous with his time and talents, he is known to surprise his clients with baked goods and homemade treats.

What sets him apart: A true leader with a gentle spirit, Terry has the innate ability to put others’ needs ahead of his own.

Attribute of Love (v) he demonstrates: With Terry, we are reminded of the quote, “To be humble is not to think less of oneself, but to think of oneself less.” With a humble mindset, Terry puts the needs of his clients first and, in doing so, can serve them in a way that brings them hope and encouragement.

Free time: Terry enjoys baking breads and pies, cooking gourmet meals, quilting with his church group, hairstyling at nursing homes and spending time with his grandchildren.

May | Carla

What sets her apart: Carla’s reputation precedes her. We discovered this firsthand when she joined our team from the Milwaukee franchise. In fact, the Milwaukee office contacted us to let us know that we were getting one of their best CAREGivers. It didn’t take long for us to realize how blessed we are. Carla is reliable and committed, and she works well with everyone. She sees the big picture when working with each client and keeps her eye on it. She is always professional, hardworking and the perfect example of choosing kindness and positivity during difficult situations.

Why Home Instead: Carla has dedicated her career to helping seniors, whether through work or family. Her formula to success is to focus on her clients, and Carla has definitely won the hearts of her clients.

April | Therese

Time with Home Instead: Therese started her CAREGiver journey with us in May 2014.

Attribute of Love (v) she demonstrates: Therese embodies Selflessness in every interaction.

What sets her apart: Therese has been providing extra care for a client who is in an assisted-living facility. (This has given the client’s out-of-state daughter peace of mind knowing that her mother is in good hands; in fact, Therese has been such a strong advocate for the mother’s care.) Recently, the client was moved to another facility, but ever-present and always-steady Therese was there. Therese’s demonstration of Love (v) truly helped make the client’s transition smooth, while the client’s daughter stated that she could not have done it without Therese.

March | Vicky

Vicky was referred to us more than five years ago, when a friend exclaimed how much she enjoyed being a CAREGiver. The powerful force of peer referrals was at work because Vicky decided to join our team.

What makes her a great CAREGiver: Vicky believes that this job is a calling, and the purpose of her life right now is to serve others; she displays her purpose-driven life by being compassionate, patient and kind with team members and senior clients alike.

What sets her apart: In 2013, we asked Vicky, “Where do you see yourself in three years?” She responded that she wanted to be right here, “being a great CAREGiver.” Today, Vicky is a solid performer for Home Instead Appleton. A client’s spouse continually praises Vicky and comments how blessed they are to have her as their CAREGiver, “She is reliable and trustworthy, and makes a difference doing the little things.”

Attribute(s) of Love (v) she demonstrates: Vicky commented that she has really learned how the role of Patience fits into her CAREGiver role, along with Kindness: Being the reason someone smiles today.

February | Paula

What makes her a great CAREGiver: Since joining our team in April 2007, Paula has embodied selfless servitude. She possesses a genuine passion for helping others; in fact, her clients’ safety, health and well-being are her highest priority.

What others are saying: Wherever Paula goes, positive feedback from clients and families follows. A client’s daughter stated that Paula is great with her dad, who enjoys her company. When she arrives for her shifts, she always seems to know what to do to help around the house.

January | Bonnie

What makes her a great CAREGiver: Bonnie has been with us since March 2017, having joined us with many years of caregiving experience. With Love (v) in her heart, she has a genuine passion for caring for others, even stating that it’s her lifelong mission.

What sets her apart: It’s a great victory when we learn about a perfect match between our CAREGivers and clients. We received the following feedback recently, expressing how happy a client’s family is over Bonnie’s caregiving:

“Bonnie is perfect for mom, who feels like she’s spending time with a friend. We appreciate Bonnie for sticking it out and hanging in there when dealing with our father, who can be difficult. Bonnie has the ability to intercede (when necessary) and avoid (when appropriate).”
