Christmas is just around the corner. Well…..not exactly, it’s still six weeks away.  But you would never know that because  the stores are full of Christmas decorations, every other commercial on television has a holiday theme and we’re already starting to hear more and more Christmas carols sneaking onto the radio. It really isn’t too early to start thinking about the baking, decorating and shopping that comes with the holidays.

Do you have any seniors on your list this year? An analysis of senior gift requests, conducted by the Home Instead Senior Care network, reveals that most seniors would like to receive practical gifts this year – things like blankets, slippers, pajamas and robes.

While you are shopping for your senior or others, we hope you will remember that there are many seniors in our community who’s name isn’t on anyone’s list. We have worked with the Veteran’s Administration and East Valley Adult Resources among others to identify lonely and isolated seniors right here in our community. Seniors who may not receive a gift or even a visitor during the Holidays.

You can help brighten their holidays by contributing to our Be a Santa to a Senior program.

We are grateful to area Walgreens locations who have partnered with us for this year’s Be a Santa to a Senior program. Visit a Walgreens location and choose an ornament from our trees which are displayed in the stores. The ornament has the first name and gift request of a local needy senior.  You can purchase the gift right there and leave the gift at the store. Many of the requests are basic items or necessities – blankets, postage stamps, socks, toilet paper or food. By being a Santa to a Senior, you really will be brightening the Holidays for a local senior.

You can learn more about this program at www.beasantatoasenior.com. We thank you for your help! This really is the most wonderful time of the year!
