  3. Saluting Seniors Who Serve

There is just about a week left to nominate a senior volunteer for our Salute to Senior Service contest. As you may know, Salute to Senior Service recognizes the outstanding contributions of senior volunteers in Arizona.  The Arizona State winner will receive a $500 donation to the nonprofit of his or her choice and be eligible to win the national prize, which is a $5000 donation to the nonprofit of his or choice.

I love reading the stories of the senior volunteers. They are truly inspiring and they serve as great reminders of what a single person can do – regardless of their age.

For example, Nadene S. from Mesa was nominated because of her work at Hospice Family Care. Nadene has logged over 3000 volunteer hours at Hospice Family Care, working in the office and visiting terminally ill patients. The staff have come to love her smile, and she has provided comfort to many patients and their families.

I invite you to read Nadene’s story and the stories of other senior volunteers at www.salutetoseniorservice.com. I also encourage you to nominate any senior volunteers that you know, whether here in Arizona, or anywhere in the US. These seniors do so much for our communities and I think this program is a wonderful opportunity to recognize them.
