Thanksgiving is still two weeks away, but here at Home Instead Senior Care of the Southeast Valley, we have been feeling blessed to be able to call the Southeast Valley home and have the people of this community as our neighbors.

We are reminded of this every year during our Be A Santa To A Senior program. Each year, we partner with local businesses and nonprofits to ensure that seniors who are alone or in need receive holiday gifts. We couldn’t do this without the generosity of the many wonderful people who take ornaments off of our trees, buy the gifts listed on the ornaments and return the gifts so that we can wrap them and deliver them to a deserving senior.

Each year I am reminded of how important this program is when I see the requests of the seniors. They are so simple: a pair of drugstore reading glasses, a grocery gift card, sometimes even household items like toilet paper, but these little things truly mean the world to them. Many times, I have seen a senior save the card or the gift bag from year to year because it is a reminder that someone still cares.

This year, we have partnered with Neighbors Who Care and East Valley Adult Resources, as well as more than 25 senior care agencies, to provide us with the names of seniors, and with Walgreens and Wal-Mart to host trees at more than a dozen locations. I encourage you to visit www.beasantatoasenior.com for the locations nearest you.

Our Be A Santa To A Senior trees will be going up this Friday, Nov. 14 until Dec. 12. We are hosting a gift-wrapping party on Dec. 12 at our office with volunteers from Neighbors Who Care. We are so grateful for their support!

We hope you will consider getting involved by purchasing a gift or more for a senior. Also, we encourage you to support the wonderful businesses and organizations that help make Be A Santa To A Senior possible.
