FIRE HAZARDS

are sometimes as simple
(yet fatal) as an unattended oven.

As we age, it’s natural to lose the full capacity of our senses, memory, decision-making abilities, mobility and much more. Additionally, with general aging and the onset of various ailments, seniors are more likely to take prescription and over-the-counter medications that can further strain their faculties. All of these automatically increase a senior's risk for fires in and around the home.

Think about your aging loved one. Can you trust them to successfully and, most importantly, safely complete the following tasks?
  • Prepare a meal without interruption
  • Empty the lint collection in the dryer after each load of laundry
  • Manage the heating system, including scheduling annual check-ups on equipment
  • Fully extinguish candles or cigarettes
  • Keep outlets clear of debris
  • Keep electrical systems up to date
  • Properly store flammable liquids away from heat or flames
  • Call for the appropriate help in an emergency

If not, your senior loved one is no longer fit to live independently. He or she may not need around-the-clock supervision, but a Home Instead CAREGiver can standby for safety and provide assistance for as little as two hours per day when he or she needs it the most.

Call us today at (804) 708-7004 to set up a FREE home safety check and our Client Care Consultant can help assess your loved one's risks and care needs.
