… Treating everyone like family.

Teresa Asby is often described as a giver. She has always taken care of others, even at a young age. When Teresa was younger she would babysit, and as she got older she worked in her family’s personal care business. Teresa joined the Home Instead family in 2014 and continually portrays professionalism, dependability and reliability.

Teresa shares her heart with the story of how she came to Home Instead. “I was born in Youngstown, OH and moved to New Smyrna Beach FL at a very young age. We lived in New Smyrna Beach until I was 21 years old. After receiving my associate degree in criminal Justice, I moved to Pennsylvania. Instead of following my criminal justice interest, I started working for my father as a caregiver at Ashby’s Personal Care Home. After several years I became the Administer for the business and then took care of my father when he was diagnosed with cancer. In 2008 when my father passed away, I become owner of Ashby’s Personal Care. My mother then became ill and in 2013, mom decided that she wanted to return to Florida. After moving back to Florida, Mom passed away I began looking for a job to continue my chosen career of working with seniors. That’s when I found Home Instead Senior Care.”

Teresa warms our hearts with her most memorable experience with one of her clients. She stated that “My client was watching a show on television and a Pampers commercial, where the babies were all sleeping and singing “silent night” came on, and the client started cheerfully singing along with the commercial. The client’s granddaughter recently had a baby, and one of her favorite activities is looking at photos of her great grandson on her tablet. Her face lights up every time she sees a baby!”

Teresa stated that she loves Home Instead because of the flexibility the company gives her. She appreciates that, as a caregiver, she can create a schedule for her lifestyle. Teresa also likes that we provide additional training classes for the caregivers so that they can further their experience and knowledge. Teresa takes the lead and has completed the following training classes in between her busy work schedule; Specialized Alzheimer's, Meal Time & Diabetes, Arthritis & Osteoporosis, and various refresher courses.

Teresa builds trust with her clients by treating everyone like family. She stated that she cares for her clients, like they are her parents, with dignity and compassion. She describes the staff at Home Instead Senior Care as being friendly and caring. She’s feels very valued and always feels that the staff and other caregivers truly appreciate the work she’s doing. When asked if there is anything that she dislikes about Home Instead, she stated that it is really hard to find something to not like about the company. “The only thing I truly dislike is when a client passes away. When spending a long period of time with a client, they become a part of ‘my family’ and it’s heartbreaking when they pass.”

The staff at Daytona Beach Home Instead Senior Care is honored to present to you, Teresa Ashby, our choice as November 2016 CAREGiver of the Month.
