Gets great satisfaction working in a career of caring

On July 2, 2015, Mary Ellen Burrows joined the Daytona Beach, Home Instead Senior Care family as a CAREGiver. Prior to working at HISC, Mary Ellen had many years of experience with caring for others as she had taken care of family members and friends with lifelong illnesses. Her education and knowledge encompasses interior design and computer science, cattle and quarter horse farming, instructional training for dogs and horses. Mary Ellen has competed in rodeo shows as well. She has participated in rodeo and horse training competitions where she won many equine certificates and awards. Mary Ellen has also worked in the medical records field as an administrator. While working with the Publix grocery chain, she was awarded the George Jenkins gold coin award. The Gold Coin award is given to employees when they are recognized as the employee of the month.  In her spare time, you can find Mary Ellen cooking or giving a hand as a house/pet sitter where and when she is needed.

Mary takes the lead and enrolls in HISC in-service training classes such as our Specialized Alzheimer’s Course and gait belt safety and transfers. This training gives her more knowledge and resources in the field of CAREGiving. Training programs help to educate CAREGivers in areas such as helping the clients and their families to cope with memory loss, dementia, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s, to name just a few. Mary Ellen has reached the highest level of CAREGiving and cares for some of our most deserving clients.

Mary Ellen gets great satisfaction working in a profession that cares for and gives help to others. She tells me that CAREGiving is a very rewarding profession and that she loves the bond that she makes with her clients.  Mary Ellen builds trust
by being there for the client and their family. She shares her heart by practicing patience and caring for her clients. She always displays the characteristics of reliability and professionalism while she is with a client. A great relationship between CAREGiver and client helps to maintain the clients comfort and bring a bit of happiness into their day. Mary Ellen shares that she finds it enjoyable to listen to the stories that seniors have to tell from their past history. Mary Ellen finds seniors to be very knowledgeable and witty and willing to share their heart with her too!

Daytona Beach Home Instead Senior Care team proudly recognizes Mary Ellen Burrows as our June 2016 CAREGiver of the Month. Congratulations!
