… The Helper

Elizabeth "Liz" Byrne joined the Daytona Beach, Home Instead Senior Care family way back in September 2012. Liz describes herself as 'the helper'. She tells us that she has always been talking care of others. She says: "Neighbors, friends or family, it doesn't matter, I go and help"! Liz knew that her career path would be in the caring field and became a Nurse. After many years she retired from nursing but wanted to stay true to herself and do what she loved to do! She saw an employment ad for Home Instead Senior Care in the newspaper, did her research, and 6 years later, she is still here and loving what she does every day. Liz said that her research showed her that HISC was a genuine and caring company dedicated to providing quality care to seniors in the community. She said that she knew this was the company for her the day she came into the office for the interview and there was a dog in the office. "I knew it was the right place for me"!

When we asked Liz what she like most about her time with Home Instead, she tells us that helping our seniors brings so much satisfaction and joy into her life. Just seeing the smile on their faces is rewarding and keeps her focused on getting the next smile and making a difference in their lives. We asked Liz to share a memorable experience with one of her seniors and she smiled and said, "I had a client that had a very hard time speaking and communicating, one day I was singing along with the radio and to my amazement, my client started to speak and sing with me!" Liz Shares her Heart every day with her clients by finding something that the client enjoys and making sure that they are enjoying what they are doing at any specific time. Liz tells us that you have to Build Trust with your clients before they will let you assist them with some of their needs. Staying true to yourself, being dependable and compassionate, and demonstrating that you have their best interests at heart, will have you and your client working together towards the same goal of keeping them safe and independent in their own home. Taking the Lead and doing what needs to be done for your client to keep them safe and comfortable in their own surroundings is what HISC is all about.

We asked Liz if there was anything else she would like to share with us and she said "no matter what your age is, there is always a place in this world for caring and kind people. To find a job that is satisfying and to 'be-needed' is a reward like no other. People of all ages appreciate kindness!".

It is our pleasure to have Elizabeth Byrne as our April CAREGiver of the Month. Congratulations!
