Heart of Gold….

Christine Coveney, originally from Boston Massachusetts, moved to Florida in 2016 to be closer to her family.  Christine has one daughter whom she enjoys spending her free time with, as well as a lot of pets that keeps her busy. She loves working with people and animals.  Her hobbies include making crafts, gardening, and attending flea markets.

Prior to joining the Home Instead Senior Care family, in 2016, Christine had never worked in the healthcare field but always felt the need to do so. Christine comes from a family full of Caregivers, her mother was a nurse, her sister is a nurse, and now, Christine is a CAREGiver. When asked how she chose Home Instead Senior Care as her career, Christine stated "I saw an ad for employment, and totally believed in what this company stands for". She said that she had no idea it would turn out to be such a rewarding job. Christine absolute loves working with Home Instead and stated that things are going great!!

Christine shares her heart, with the telling of this story. "My client was informed that I had won this amazing recognition of CAREGiver of the Month. So out of the kindness of his heart, when I arrived at my next shift, the husband of my client had put up a sign on the garage door that read, "parking for the CAREGiver of the Month". Christine said "this made me feel really blessed to be assisting such a great client and her husband".

Working with clients with Alzheimer's can be challenging for some, but Christine is always eager to step in and help. She shared that "there is nothing like receiving a big smile from a client who has dementia, who remembers you, and gives you a big hug". "The saddest part of the job," Christine shared, "is when a person, that you have taken care of for a long period of time, passes away. At the same time, however, it is such a rewarding career knowing that you are having a positive effect with our seniors and their families". Christine also enjoys working with the office staff and shares that "we all work great together, the office staff and the CAREGivers to help our clients as a team".

Christine takes the lead and is always looking for ways to improve her skills and gain more knowledge and has participated in various training classes. She has taken our Specialized Alzheimer's series, Part 1 and 2, Strokes In-Service training, and Gait Belt Training. She wants to attend other classes, but works a full-time schedule with us, sometimes working 6-7 days a week. In addition to working a full-time schedule with us, Christine also works at the Humane Society as well as being a driver for cancer patients for the American Cancer Society. Christine has a heart of gold and a strong desire to help everyone she can. Despite her full working schedule, Christine is never late to her shifts, and she never calls off. She builds trust with her clients by being reliable and dependable. She is always willing to assist our Scheduling Department by picking up extra shifts with her clients.

With great joy, the staff at Daytona Beach Home Instead Senior Care is honored to present to you, Christine Coveney, the September 2017 CAREGiver of the Month.
