As a long time advocate of seniors and owner of a local nursing home, Lynne Fagan saw first-hand that supporting seniors in maintaining their safety and independence in their own homes was the most graceful way to age. Lynne’s passion for seniors fueled her desire to make a difference in their lives. She worked with the Florida Legislature to bring about significant nursing home reform and to draw attention to senior issues.

She became one of the early supporters of the mission of Home Instead Senior Care and purchased the Volusia County franchise in 1995. Lynne worked tirelessly to bring the business from a single employee to a thriving enterprise to serve the seniors of Volusia County.

Lynne passed away in 2002, and her daughter, Susan Miller took the reins of Home Instead Senior Care. She has internalized her mother’s passion for serving the elderly and brings her own business experience to the table. The office serves as a resource for those families looking to create a meaningful and supportive experience for their seniors as they age. The goal, of course, is to help seniors and their families cope with the challenges of aging. More specifically, to help seniors stay “home instead” rather than move to a more restrictive environment.

The office currently employs more than 200 full- and part-time employees and is recognized as a high performing office in the areas of client and employee satisfaction.

Our Home Instead Senior Care franchise owners possess a heartfelt desire to work with seniors in their community. It's the reason why they were chosen to serve seniors and their families.

It's been said that when God closes one door, He opens another. Susan's history with Home Instead Senior Care is a perfect example of that. Her mother, Lynne Fagan, was a long-time senior care advocate and nursing home owner who realized that many of her residents could be happier and healthier remaining in their own homes with a bit of support. Her research led her to purchase the Home Instead Senior Care franchise for Volusia County. Sadly, she passed away prematurely in 2002 which led to Susan becoming involved in the Home Instead mission.
 
The stories and experiences of the seniors and CAREGivers of Home Instead have brought inspiration and joy to her life. Susan is dedicated to improving the lives of all she meets and works to cultivate a positive, energetic environment for her staff and clients. She feels privileged to know and work with a diverse team with a common goal - to change the fear of aging to hope and to change the isolation of the senior experience to one that includes the comfort of companionship.
 
The culture of respect and love created by her Home Instead team is a beautiful example of care for seniors in our community.

Theresa is a natural fit for Home Instead Senior Care. Experience in the nursing home industry has given her a tremendous background in caring for seniors but even more than that, Theresa truly cares about seniors and their families and uses her experience to put everyone at ease.

Theresa has many, many stories to tell about how her work has made a difference in the lives of others. Some of her favorite stories revolve around how she and the staff of Home Instead have been able to create peace of mind for families that live far from their senior.

In particular, a daughter called Home Instead from California about arranging care for her father in Florida. Her dad was beginning to show the signs of Alzheimer's disease and having balance and continence issues which created unease and worry about his safety. Theresa was able to find a CAREGiver that was a perfect match (they were both musicians, and he had not lost his musical abilities). With a compatible companion to see to her dad's everyday needs and regular communication from Theresa, the daughter was able to rest easy that her dad was in capable, caring hands.

"This is the wonderful part about my job", Theresa says, "special CAREGivers can create peace and hope for seniors and their families and make the winding down of a life a memorable and positive experience".


Kathi MacLeod, Human Resources

Kathi relocated to Florida from Massachusetts a number of years ago to be near her mother.  Kathi received her MBA from Northeastern University and has spent her whole career in the field of Human Resources. She brings over twenty-five years of business experience and helps us to find just the right people to be part of our wonderful team of qualified and compassionate CAREGivers.

Just as our CAREGivers work hard to provide the highest level of quality care for our clients, Kathi works to support our CAREGivers, insuring they have all the support, training and tools necessary to provide the best care possible to our clients.

Kathi has a sincere passion for working with and helping people and this job is a perfect fit, allowing her an opportunity to utilize her skills and experience to help make a difference in the lives of our clients and CAREGivers.  "I feel privileged to be part of such a professional and caring team who provide such an important and needed service to our seniors enabling them to remain at home, maintain their independence and dignity and provide peace of mind.


Traci Jones, RN/Community Educator

Traci Jones, RN/Community Educator

Traci joined the Home Instead Senior Care Team in October 2017 as the Community Educator. She started her nursing career in 1988 as an ICU/Cardiac nurse. In 1991, she was introduced to the field of Home Healthcare, where she found her professional calling, in caring for seniors in the comfort of their home. She sees how rewarding it is to have the privilege of providing compassionate care, while educating seniors and their family members how to manage their chronic or degenerative health conditions to improve quality of life, and help them remain safely independent in the comfort of their home.

Traci has lived in Volusia County most of her life. She married her high school sweetheart 29 years ago, has four children and five precious grandchildren whom she loves and adores! The newest addition to her family is her Goldendoodle, Tucker. Traci's faith in God and her loving family mean the world to her. She enjoys spending time with her family & friends, reading, bike riding and snuggling with her sweet grandbabies!

As a teenager, Traci and her family where blessed to be able to care for her Great-Grandmother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.  As a young teenager, Traci learned the value in having family support who worked together as a team in providing full-time care for their aging loved one. "Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or other related Dementias is a lot of work and as the disease progresses the care can become even more challenging." Traci believes it takes "a village" to give the care that our aging loved ones need and deserve, as well as the respite each family caregiver needs throughout the care. She feels Home Instead Senior Care plays a vital role in helping families with the care of their aging loved ones.

Pam Maron, Client Care Coordinator

Pam Maron, Client Care Coordinator

​Pam has described her position as Client Care Coordinator with Home Instead Senior Care as her "dream job". She has had extensive experience with seniors in assisted living facilities and senior communities, but has truly found her niche helping seniors remain safely and independently in their homes.

As a young girl, Pam cherished the time spent with her grandmother who lived with her family. The rich relationship and memories that her grandmother blessed her with has created a life-long passion for serving seniors.

One of Pam's main duties is quality assurance. She visits clients in their homes to discuss their changing needs and the performance of their CAREGivers. Pam has been amazed and humbled at the depth of the relationships between Home Instead CAREGivers and their clients. Statements such as "My CAREGiver is like a daughter to me" from a client and "your CAREGiver has enhanced, nourished and prolonged my mother's life - we can't thank you enough" from a son brings to life the meaning and joy that relationships create in the hearts of each and every one of us.

“I’m not sure if this job was created for me, or if I was created for this job.” Obviously, Kim loves her role as Client Care Coordinator at Home Instead Senior Care! She truly enjoys seeing her clients bloom under the care of their CAREGivers and her own watchful eye. Kim has seen many isolated seniors gain a whole new world of opportunity and activity with the support and relationships that are created when that perfect match of CAREGiver and senior happens!

As a part of the sandwich generation – raising children and helping an aging parent – Kim sees firsthand what families encounter in trying to manage their days. She relocated to Florida to be close and available to her mom after her father passed away from frontal lobe dementia. Her son is attending college here in Daytona and her daughter is out-of-state. She came to us from a sister Home Instead Senior Care office in Pennsylvania, where she also served as Client Care Coordinator. Kim also has a background in counseling and assisting people going through major life transitions. 

Kim finds the reward of her hard work in seeing her father’s generation aging, with dignity, in their own homes with the comfort and hope found in a supportive relationship with their families and CAREGiver.

Linda Dixon was born and raised in a small town north of Syracuse, New York, and moved to Florida with her husband, Hal, in 1987. Linda’s 25 years of experience includes working in skilled nursing, home health, assisted living, and independent living; undoubtedly Linda’s true passion lies in working with seniors. Linda is currently employed with Home Instead Senior Care of Volusia County, where she is able to provide seniors and their families with solutions that allow for dignity and respect throughout the aging process. In her spare time Linda enjoys playing golf, walking on the beach, and enjoying time with her family.


Brad Lackey, Community Service Representative

Brad Lackey, Community Service Representative

Brad Lackey, Community Service Representative, comes to Home Instead Senior Care after spending thirty years in media marketing.  A native of Michigan, Brad has had the good fortune of having lived all over the United States.  Having resided on the East-coast, the West-coast, the Midwest and the Deep South Brad has gained a unique perspective in what matters in people lives and what it takes to move from acquittance to trusted advisor.

Brad holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Finance from Ferris State University.  Brad has worked in marketing management positions with several organizations and brings extensive knowledge to the Home Instead Senior Care team as it relates to meeting the needs of others and bridging the gaps between problems and solutions. 

Brad has lived in Volusia County for over 8 years and both of his daughters, Christina and Katy, are thriving members of the local community.  Harley, his 80 lbs. Labrador Retriever also considers himself an essential part of any place he goes.  In the recent past Brad witnessed the decline of his father and learned firsthand the importance of quality care.  “My father always was, and always will be, my hero.  To watch the changes he experienced later in life was deeply emotional and it gave me a true insight into the ageing process and how it can effect a family.”  “Now, working with Home Instead Senior Care, I have the opportunity to touch the lives of others as many did during my father’s change.”

​"I have so many wonderful memories of my Great Grandmother and my Grandma and Grandpap! Spending time at their home for Sunday dinners and having sleep-overs with Grandma and getting up and helping with breakfast. Working here at Home Instead Senior Care, hopefully, will give that one person, just one more memory, of spending time with the elderly memebers of their family."

"There is so much that we can learn, just by talking to and listening to the senior members of our family. Working at Home Instead has given me the opportunity to help families keep their parents and grandparents with them at home, instead of a facility, for a little while longer!"

Christine has worked in the customer service profession for her entire career. At the age of 17 years, Christine's first job was as a server for Pizza Hut. In this position, she was in contact with people of all ages. Years later, Christine worked for an Olan Mills Photography Studio as a photographer. Again, all ages would come through the door, but the emphasis was on the children and documenting their "growing-up". Christine continued with her photography career when she became a wedding photographer. For 15 years she captured the smiles and tears that happen during this happy occasion. Again, Christine worked with all ages trying to capture the perfect family portraits. It's a natural progression to be working with the senior population now. To have the opportunity to give familied a few more years with mom and dad in the home....making one more memory, taking one more pictures and giving one more hug.

Cathy Gallagher, RN, Community Service Representative

Cathy Gallagher, RN, Community Service Representative

Cathy began her career in healthcare in 1992 as a CNA and became an RN in 1999.  She worked for 23 years at Halifax Health Hospital and hospice before joining Homeinstead in 2019.  Cathy's desire to work at Homeinstead came from a direct relationship with our company in caring for her beloved step-dad in 2014-2015.  She said that the care "was so excellent and so appreciated!  He was on hospice and was slowly dying, but he needed extra help to be able to stay at home with my Mom.  Homeinstead helped us SO much and even though I am a nurse, I could not be there 24/7,  but Homeinstead could and did!  When he did die, many of the Homeinstead staff even attended his funeral, which I will never forget!  It was truly wonderful care and I now work here in honor of him."

Cathy's interests include cooking, decorating (including weddings 😊), traveling, flying, dancing, gardening, reading and just enjoying this wonderful life!  She is the VERY proud Mom of one daughter who now lives in Tampa and is a Doctor of Radiology.

She is so excited to reach many people who want to remain at home and help them to do just that!  😊

Colleen started with Home Instead in November 2013 as a staffing coordinator.  Colleen brings three years of previous Home Health experience to Home Instead and knows the importance of matching the right caregiver with the right client.  She realizes there is so much more to staffing then merely having a warm body to fill a shift and she takes the time to create a good environment for both client and caregiver.

“One of my most fulfilling jobs was being the primary caregiver for my mother in her last year of life. Words cannot express how happy I was to be able to care for my mother as she had cared for me as a child.  As staffer’s our dream is to find the perfect caregiver for every one of our clients so they can safely and securely stay in their own home!”

Colleen is originally from Connecticut and relocated to Florida over twenty years ago to live close to her parents.  She has been married for over thirty years and has two teenage children.  Her motto is, “Everything is better at the beach”.  Colleen is happy to be part of a team of caring people that provide quality care to seniors in our community.

Ruby is a Florida native with 6 sisters and 23 nieces and nephews with 4 children of her own. Ruby’s large family has allowed her to hone her skills in caring for those her around her.

She has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida specializing in Abnormal Psychology.

Ruby brings many years of office experience to Home Instead. She has a great desire to make a difference in her community and enjoys growing her own food that she shares within her neighborhood.

Kristi Miller, Administrative Services Specialist

Kristi is a unique and eccentric addition to our office and adds a lot of fun and energy to the team. Her family has long been involved in helping seniors – her grandmother owned a nursing home and founded this Home Instead office. Kristi’s hobbies include dressing up in strange costumes, and travelling in her 1989 camper van which she uses to camp at music festivals and off-grid.

Kristi is a long time resident of the Daytona Beach area, having been born here and attending Spruce Creek High School. She aspires to one day create her own off-grid intentional community in the middle of the mountains. Kristi is an Administrative Services Specialist. She assists in finding the best CAREGivers in the community for Home Instead as well as assisting those looking for care to discover the benefits of home care instead of institutional care.

Tracey is a native of Maryland and recently relocated to Florida with her husband and two daughters. She brings many years of office experience and customer service to Home Instead. She is passionate about helping others and finds building working relationships with others to be very rewarding. She is looking forward to working with the wonderful caregivers to ensure our seniors can stay in the comfort of their own home. In her spare time, she and her husband enjoy traveling and exploring new places.

​I am a native New Yorker. I moved here to Florida 18 years ago. I met my husband here and we have a beautiful daughter. One of my first jobs in New York was a CNA for a ALF. I loved working with the residents at the facility. I worked the Dementia ward so I am really familiar with what caregivers do for our client's. I moved here when my father became sick and needed help with housework and personal care. While taking care of my father I had decided to go back to school and get my Law degree but I found myself really missing working on personal level with our seniors. I was very happy when offered a chance to come work for HISC and have the chance to help our seniors again.

Hi, I’m Milissa Davis. My husband and I moved to the Volusia County area in 1997 and began our family. I stayed at home with my children for 10 years. During this time, I spent time assisting the elderly in my church. When it was time for me to restart my career, I knew I wanted to work with the elderly.  

After spending the last decade working with seniors and veterans in Volusia County I understand the importance of providing reliable, professional, compassionate care to keep our seniors in their home.  

I am aligned with the mission of Home Instead Senior Care and am excited to work with such an amazing team!!  

When not at work I can be found enjoying time with my wonderful husband and children.

Hi. I’m Lyssa Baca! I am native to the beautiful state of Colorado and had just recently moved to Port Orange Florida in 2018. I have 2 beautiful kids, an amazing husband and 1 wonderful step daughter.

My love for elders started when I was 17 Years old. I started out volunteering in a nursing home and my love for the Geriatrics field grew very quickly from there. I have now been in the Geriatrics field going on 15 years. My experience goes from basic care all the way up to Alzheimer’s/Dementia care.

I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps as I decided to enlist right out of High School which as you could imagine did not make my mom very happy. I was a Sous Chef for 3 years so I do love to cook. My hobbies are singing and photography.  I love interacting with people and making people laugh. I LOVE dancing and hope to take up Salsa dancing lessons here soon. I also enjoy being with family and staying fit.

I am very excited to have taken on a new position here at Home Instead as a Receptionist and am very excited about getting to meet all the wonderful people that come through the door as well as join our company whether staff or client.

Hi! I am Laura. I am a mother of 4 amazing children and 2 equally amazing grandchildren.

I have lived in the state of Florida off and on for many years and recently moved back to Florida to be closer to my family.

I have had the honor of taking care of our seniors and Vetrans for a great many years and recently moved into the office setting and absolutely love it . I do not consider what I do a "job". Bringing compassion, dignity, respect and love to our seniors is a passion and I am thrilled to be a part of Home Instead Family!

When I am not at work I enjoy cooking, photography, nature, crafts, music, my ferret Kilo and anything Batman.

Paula and her husband moved to Daytona Beach 20 years ago.  Paula has worked in homecare ever since moving to Daytona, and has found homecare to be a rewarding career choice. She enjoys it not only because she gets to help the seniors of Volusia County, but also for having the privilege to meet many wonderful caregivers along the way. Paula is happy to be working at Home Instead Senior Care and hopes to finish her career here with us. Paula has four children and six beautiful grandchildren with another one on the way.
