The Northborough, MA office of Home Instead opened their doors on March 1, 1997 as Hearthside, Inc. dba (doing business as) Home Instead Senior Care. Each Home Instead office is individually owned and operated.
This was the first Home Instead in New England and the 51st franchise in North America. After completion of a successful first year, the owners bought their second office located in Natick, MA.
Although Home Instead Senior Care is a in-home care agency, the owners came into this business with years of medical backgrounds. Bruce Bender is a physician and Laurie Bender a Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Now, with a staff of over 200 CAREGivers, the Benders have remained in the forefront of Elder Home Care in Massachusetts. They have worked with state representatives to both legislate and create quality standards for this industry.
Founders, Paul and Lori Hogan, began serving seniors in Omaha, Nebraska as Home Instead Senior Care in 1994. It was Paul Hogan's own family experience caring for his grandmother for 12 years that made him realize the need for elder home care and companionship services to help seniors live independently at home.
In June 1995, the company began franchising. By 1998, the Home Instead Senior Care network had grown to 99 franchises and was recognized by Entrepreneur magazine as one of the 100 fastest growing franchise companies in the United States.
In 2000, Home Instead Senior Care began international development with the opening of a Master Franchise in Osaka, Japan. Today, the Home Instead Senior Care franchise network is the world's trusted source of companionship and home care for seniors, with more than 800 franchises in the United States, Canada, Japan, Portugal, Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Spain, New Zealand, Taiwan, Switzerland and Germany.
In 2003, the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation was created to further the philanthropic mission of franchisees. The Foundation's focus and objective is to provide financial assistance to non-profit organizations specializing in projects and programming that improve the quality of life for seniors.
